I'm traveling this weekend to Niagara Falls with my two young children and would like some ideas on what we can visit along the way (from Long Island).
Can anyone suggest which route/cities are a must to visit and any hotels along the way and as well at the falls.
One last question, is three days enough to enjoy the trip>
much thanks There is a site for an indoor water park called Fallsview Indoor Waterpark.
I doubt you'd want to go to a waterpark though, but they have a list of things you can do, sightseeing and whatnot under the 'Niagara Falls Information' link.
Here is the link;
http://www.fallsviewwaterpark.com/niagar...
They list places to eat and all that.
Well, if you want, you could go to the waterpark.
Here is another site you can visit;
http://www.niagaraparks.com
You can find a lot of things to do on that site.
Here is some info of the things that I thought would be cool to do;
-Journey Behind the Falls
"Facts and Figures about Journey Behind the Falls
At Journey Behind the Falls, you'll experience the awesome spectacle of one-fifth of the world鈥檚 fresh water crashing down 13 stories to the basin below. Every second during summer daylight hours, over 2,800 cubic meters of water thunders over the rim at 65 kilometers per hour.
Your Journey Behind the Falls visit will take 30 to 45 minutes. In the spring and summer months, you'll receive a free souvenir biodegradable rain poncho as protection from the mist of the Falls. Elevators descend 150 feet through bedrock to tunnels that lead and to the Cataract Portal and the Great Falls Portal which is one third of the way behind the massive sheet of water, then on to the Upper and Lower Observation Decks at the foot of the Falls.
Journey Behind the Falls is a very special place during the winter months. The mist of the Falls freezes in spectacular ice formations on every tree and building. Viewing the Falls in winter should not be missed!"
-Whirlpool Aero Car
"Ride The Air
High above the racing Niagara River, you'll be transported through the air in an antique cable car.
Far below, the torrent of water abruptly changes direction and creates one of the world鈥檚 most mesmerizing natural phenomenon 鈥?the Niagara Whirlpool. Sometimes frightening and always unforgettable!"
-Maid of the Mist
"Ride into the Mist!
Water rushes all around as you "soak" in the excitement and explore the roar of the Falls. A historical ride aboard the world-famous Maid of the Mist is a half hour thrill of a lifetime! North America's oldest tourist attraction, millions of visitors have enjoyed the boat tours since 1846.
Attraction Facts & Figures
A powerful diesel-engined boat will take you from the Canadian docks past the base of the American Falls, then into the basin of the magnificent Canadian Horseshoe Falls. Operating from late April/early May (weather dependent) to October 24 each year, the Maid departs every 15 minutes. Two 600-passenger boats, Maids VI and VII, are each 80-feet long and have two 350-horsepower engines that carry the vessels against the powerful current. A recyclable souvenir raincoat is provided free with admission to help keep you dry from the mist and spray.
The Maid of the Mist Steamship Company is privately owned and leases the land for its Canadian operations from The Niagara Parks Commission.
Steamship departures from the Canadian side of the Niagara River are located at the Maid of the Mist Plaza. Previously the location of the Princess Elizabeth Building , the Plaza was built in 1991 and is unique in that it is set into the gorge wall, with all buildings below ground level. The large brown stone tower, covered in split brick mosaic carvings of vines, houses four high-speed elevators that take passengers down to the docks at the river鈥檚 edge. Taking a few steps up to the top of the tower provides a wonderful panoramic view of Niagara Falls and it is a very popular location for photographers."
-Falls Fireworks
"The whole family will be thrilled by Free Pizza Pizza Fireworks over the Falls, every Friday and Sunday from May 18 until September 2, as well as Wednesdays in July and August and Fridays from September 7 to October 5.
Special displays are also held on these U.S. and Canadian holidays: Victoria Day May 21, Memorial Day May 28, Canada Day July 1, U.S. Independence Day July 4, Canadian Civic Holiday August 6.
All displays are scheduled for 10:00 p.m. and are weather dependent.
From May 18 to September 2, free Coca-Cola Concerts are held on Fridays and Sundays at Queen Victoria Place, from 8 p.m. until the Fireworks start at 10 p.m.. A great place to see all the entertainment is from the patio at Edgewaters Tap & Grill."
There are other things to do as well, such as; Garden Tails, Nature Trails, Horse and Carriage Rides, etc...
Going to the Butterfly Conservatory would be a neat idea too.
Check out the sites, there are loads of things to do that I haven't even mentioned.
Hope this helped. ;]

P.S. Go to http://toronto.com .
There is loads of info about hotels, attractions, places to eat, etc...
Just type in 'Niagara Falls' into the search bar and then click on 'Hotels' that is to the left under 'Categories' in blue and find a hotel where you'd like to stay. This week end is our Thanksgiving long week end in Canada.Spend a few hours at the falls then visit Toronto,the CN tower and Canada's wonderland,only a 2 hour drive from the falls.3 days will give you the highlights of the area.You can always come back. Not sure about the best route, but I can recommend that when you get to Niagara Falls purchase a day pass for the people mover bus. It will cost you about $5 per person for the day. You can take the people mover to all the sites to see including the Falls, the Whirlpool Rapids, the Butterfly Meseum, the Spanish cars. Hop off and on all day. Great deal. You and your family would also enjoy Marineland. Lots of sea life whales, dolphins, etc and plenty of rides to go on. 3 days is enough. Grab the niagara great gorge adventure pass. You need to do the Maid of the mist and make sure you go and see some wineries while you are here. You have to try icewine. Try Reif Estate or Peller Estates. |
