Do you prefer Newcastle or London ?

I'm planing to study at Newcastle university upon Tyne, It's a good university but what about Newcastle itself I know nothing about the City, please post your answer whether it's a good decision to live in Newcastle or not? how do you compare it to London? compare regarding expenses, weather, life style, nature and people.
By the way i hadn't been to UK before
Thanks in advance

Newcastle really is a thriving city. You'll find a huge difference in cost compared to London.

It's only 3 hours on the train to London so not that far away if you want to visit (which im sure you will!) Even getting a flight from Newcastle to London can be very cheap if you book in advance and only takes 1hour. You've also got the low cost airlines flying all over europe from newcastle.

The party scene is second to none, everyone is out for a great time and that's why it has such a great rep for being a "party city". 鈥榳ork hard, play hard!!鈥?

It has a good cultural scene as well, lot's of art galleries, music venues small and large. Lovely theatre & The most stunning architecture.

You're only a few miles from the North East coast which is just gorgeous. They have a few videos on http://www.visitnortheastengland.com/ to give you an idea, and http://www.visitnorthumberland.com is just gorgeous! Also Durham Cathedral/Castle and Hadrian鈥檚 Wall near by too!

Both Newcastle Uni and Northumbria Uni are in the centre of the city so it is easy to get around anywhere. There is always the Tyne and Wear metro service (like the london tube) and plenty of buses to get around, the cost of travel is also cheap compared to London.

Most people born and bread in the North East of England have a strong accent which can sometimes be hard to understand but you to get used to it, and from experience everyone I have met from the north east has been very warm and inviting and they are the friendliest of people.

As for the weather i'd say for anyone moving to the Uk you will have to get used to the short grey winter days around this time whether you live north or south, but as for general weather it's similar to the rest of the UK really although just that little bit colder sometimes and a bit more rain!

I am not you so what I like or dislike may not be what you like or dislike, but I would prefer to live in London. Despite all the negatives about London I like it for its museums, art galleries, restaurants, bookshops. I also love the countryside of southern England and the many main line railway stations in London make it simple for me to travel out to it - I'm a frequent hiker. I don't know too much about the cultural life in Newcastle - there must be some in such a huge city. It is close to beautiful countryside too, though wilder and less pastoral than in my beloved southern England; there is the Northumbria National Park and the long distance walking trail along Hadrians Wall for example; the climate in North East England is harsher than in the South too, particularly in the winter. Don't let me put you off too much though. I'm sure Newcastle University is a good one. You'll be immersed
in your studies during term time, and during vacation time
London and the South is less than 3 hours away on the train.

Expenses - probably cheaper
Weather - Awful in Newcastle, hotter in summer in London, but still not good
Lifestyle - Newcastle and London both have good nightlife, London is mainly a professional lifestyle though
People - From Newcastle are called Geordies, From London are called Londoners, and the working class are called Cockney

Geordies are very hard to understand if you have never been to the UK before
Strong Cockney accents can also be harder to understand

I think unless you're from London or Sunderland, you'll get on okay in Newcastle

I'm from Kent so I've got neutral views of the two cities.

There is a lot more to see in London but once you've seen all the sights, what then?

Newcastle is at the opposite end of the country, in the north - prices are much, much cheaper than in London, there are some lovely places to visit in the area and, most importantly for anybody considering living there, the people are great! They are much more friendly and welcoming than Londoners and you'll make some life-long friends there I'm sure.

(ps: I'm not from Newcastle, by the way, nor do I live there but I have visited both places, I lived in London for 4 years and hated it!)

Newcastle any day!!! I hate London.

Newcastles a great city. Its much smaller and compact then London, however it has the Metro, similar to the tube. Living costs are likely to be a damn sight cheaper then London, weather is not so good, can be wet a lot. People are lovely, Geordies are some of the friendliest you will ever find infact. Around newcastle there is fantastic scenery such as Northumberland!

hey newcastle is a very nice place to live, i go to uni just up the raod a lace called sunderland and i love it! i have been to both cities, and newcaslte is much more cheaper than London, London is a nice place, but Newcaslte is more layed back conpared to London. If you did move to newcastle and go to uni there and wanted to visit London there is a major train station in the centre of Newcaslte, which you could get he train return for around 拢45, also if you like to visit places newcaslte is the best place to be, becuase Edinburgh is only about 2.30 hours on the train and London is only about 3 hours on the train. Newcaslte has many bars and pubs, and theaters as well as many musuems e.g. The Sage and the baltic just to name a few. Weather is better in london but not by much really! and i find that the people up north in Newcastle are much more freindlier! newcaslte you will find more wild life and more nature reserves than london!

hey hope this helps
