Is a trip to the Hamptons worth a visit if you are going to NYC for a week?

No. Not worth it. Its just a nice little town with a beach. It will take you about two hours to get there if your coming during busy season (spring/summer). NOT WORTH IT. Stay in NYC...there is plenty to do there. Make sure you visit the State of Libery and Ellis Island, Little Italy, shop on Canal, see a broadway show, visit Times Square and Rockefeller Center. Dont forget the Empire State Building. See...too much to do to waste it on the Hamptons.

It worth your whole trip, i live in Hamptons and i really think that you should visit it

yes. it doesn't take that long to get there, around 3 hours, and you can spend a day or two and then come back into town. from the Hamptons out to Montauk it's very nice.

I don't think that it is worth is, especially this time of year. I live 30 miles west of Southampton. If you were visiting in the summer its much nicer in the hamptons.

Nice visit..nice beaches. Though I would NOT recommend driving there, especially in the summer! The crowd and traffic are NUTS!

You can either take the LIRR - Montauk Branch to various stops (between Hampton Bays and Montauk) or within Manhattan they have the Hampton Jitney. Let the bus driver do the driving.

If you are visiting during the early/late summer months, it would probably be a nice trip either by car or train.

In the middle of summer, it is super crowded out there, and the traffic is a nightmare.

But the beaches are pretty and if you have a car you can drive around and see some really beautiful homes. You could also take a trip to Montauk or some of the Long Island vinyards.

There are a lot of stores and restaurants that are open year round, but it is definitely a very quiet place during the winter.
