Going to New York in late March, can anyone give advice about hotels and areas to stay, thanks?

Somewhere central, and nice hotel

I went last year in Feb with my wife and had a blast.
We stayed in hotel 17 which is cheap and chearfull but you don't stay in your hotel very long .
Here are some buget tips
1.Take the Staten island ferry ,It's free, yes free and it goes right past the statue of liberty .
2. Go to century 21 it's a department store near ground zero,Designer gear and fantastic prices ,there are some times street hawkers outside selling copies for the same price as you can get the real thing inside .
3.Go to the natural history museum ,They give you a sugested entry price and then you pay what you want to pay ($1 each is OK)
3.Use the subway $2 per jorney each if you miss your stop you can get on anouther train and go back with out paying any extra, the map seeems complicated at first but it's not that bad.
4.Don't buy your suveneers from the actual places get them from the shops in little china or from the hells kitchen area where they are more reasonably priced.
5 If you are going to see a Broadway show ,go to the ticket boothe under the Marriot on times square when it opens (soory slighly vaigeu) for 50% discount tickets ( these are proper tickets for decent seats ) I got front row for half the price of those at the back.
6.When it is cold the horses are not used on Central park but they have rikshaws .Haggel for a descent price.
7. Grayline buses run a great sevice you can choose from 48 hours all loops witch means you can hop on and off any where on there circuit for 48 hours ijncluding the nighttime tour or you can go for the three day all inclusive tour which we thought would have been a bit to much .There operatives gave us some realy good local hint and tips .

I went in late November and stayed at the Bedford Hotel on 40th Street - just round the corner from Grand Central Station.

It was a great base as there were plenty of buses nearby to get around on and there was the subway from Grand Central plus a big taxi rank and the drop off point for the Newark Liberty Airport shuttle bus just 1 block away.

We stayed in the Roosevelt Hotel, very central, right around the corner from Grand Central Station, was a nice big hotel, and was pretty cheap too. We got it on Expedia.com, and i suggest looking there, as well as lastminute.com and hotels.com
You cant really go wrong with hotels in cities, there are usually reviews on the above mentioned websites to give you an idea. Thats how we decided to stay at the roosevelt.

Advice: Avoid Hotels that have an hourly rate.

Don t stay at the Wellington hotel whatever u do.As my sis stayed in it this week.N the room smelt of food.N had 2 ask 4 another room. But it was smaller than the 1 that she had booked 4.
