Safe to walk to #7 station from Holiday Inn LaGuardia??

I'm staying in the Holiday Inn LaGuardia soon and have been told that the area is "not the best" so I was wondering if it is safe to walk from the hotel to the #7 station nearby?

It's OK, especially during the day. Admittedly, walking along Roosevelt Avenue through Flushing and Corona isn't my favorite thing to do in the city. There are better parts, but that's not too bad up there. It's off the Grand Central Parkway, near Shea Stadium. Once you get off of Roosevelt Avenue and away from the station, it's a regular residential neighborhood, and a decent one.

It could be a bit lonely at night around there, though. During the day, I'd take that walk with no second thoughts. At night, getting a hotel shuttle isn't a bad option, but it should be OK if you had to hike it.

If you want a shuttle, keep in mind; the 7 is elevated in most of Queens, so you can call the hotel from your cell phone while you're on the way. The trip is about 25-30 minutes from Times Square. If the hotel can provide that service for you, it certainly doesn't hurt to use it. Maybe call them when you get to around 74th Street-Broadway/Jackson Heights, it should be like a 1- or 2-minute drive from the hotel to the 111th Street station, so that'll give them enough time to fire up the shuttle and be there when you arrive.

With all of that said, if you have to walk it during the day, go right ahead and do it. Even early-mid evening, towards the tail end of rush hour. After that, it depends on what you think of the area. A hotel shuttle might be an OK idea at that time.

Enjoy your trip!

My mother walked to that station on the 7 line into her 80s, including coming home at 11:00 at night after the opera, ballet or theater. I don't know where this mortal fear of Queens is coming from but as someone who grew there I find it very weird.

By that, do you mean the one in Corona? Corona is pretty safe but it's not safe at night so don't go out at night. But if you do, just be careful with your stuff.

The closest stop on the 7 train is 111th Street in Corona. You'll be I believe 5 blocks from the stop. This area of Queens isn't that bad.

I moved to Jackson Heights near Corona for few months and it not very bad place. I have went to library there @ before closing time and nothing happened to me.
Just avoid unused street.
