I gotta say, NY 17 has to be the most BORING highway once past Middletown. Too dang windy and nothing around.

It would actually be easier...AND NO TOLLS...if you go over the George Washington Bridge into NJ and take I-95 to Route 80 into Pennsylvania. After Tannersville and up the big mountain, you will get out at the exit for I-380 North. Stay on that highway...it merges into I-84. Once in Scranton, go to I-81 North (the sign will say Binghamton). You will enter back into New York State. Just stay on I-81 for quite a while, past Syracuse and Watertown. As soon as you see signs for Alexandria Bay, you will be in the Thousand Island Region

I go there all the time!!!! But I don't know the routs. Go to www.mapquest.com and type in your starting point and your ending point!

Take I-87 North to Rt. 17 West to I-81 North. I-81 ends at the Canadian border in the Thousand Islands.
