I am marrying my moroccan boyfreind in morocco in january what documentation do i need?

i know i need proof of religion and a data protection form from the police i am also told i need a capcity of marraige form can some body please tell me what this is i have never heard of it before many thanks hope some body can help

You need a few things including proof of religion, proof of employment, a police report, birth certificate, divorce papers (if applicable) and Capacity for Marriage. You get the latter from the American Consulate in Casablanca. You basically sign a sworn statement that says you are free to marry (divorced or single and not currently married). It's notarized right there at the Consulate and costs about $30 US. There are many other papers you are required to have, but they can be obtained in Morocco as part of the application to marry. You will also be interviewed by the local police and 2 judges. They will ask several questions including how you met, how long you have known each other, have you had sexual relations, what is your religion, etc... I am also 4.5 years older than my husband and that was questioned, as well as the circumstances surrounding my divorce from my first husband and my desire to have children. It can all be a little nerve wracking, but stay calm and be patient. Best wishes and congratulations.

Just got back from Morocco last week. I went there for the same reason. I learned my lesson. Think about what you are getting yourself into. People are different of course.

You need a reality check.....if he is Moroccan then most likely he is muslim...muslim men arent supposed to have girlfriends in the first place...so if he doesnt follow his religion, what makes u think he is being honest with you? U need to learn ALOT more about him....also he can only marry a chaste christian or jew...meaning, virgin and practicing......so, u see my point? If u go ahead and marry him without addressing these issues, well...youve been warned....

Fez, your point is well taken....however when we speak Islamically of virgins are for virgins, non virgins for non virgins, etc....we are speaking as i said, islamically. The majority of scholars have ruled that for if a muslim man is going to marry a christian or a jew, she must be chaste and practicing her religion. Now I suppose that if a woman were unchaste, then returned to her religion she would be chaste again in a certain sense....i cant cite a fatwa on that however...Jazak Allah for pointing out that i wasnt clear enough...

Oh it;s been a long time ago, but the capacity of marriage I got at the embassy in Morocco, and it was a document that said I was single and able to get married.
As for proof of religion I had to sign a paper in front of the official there in Morocco attesting my religion. Very simple.
And the police paper I took with me and it was just a document atesting that I had no criminal record. I am not sure if you can get that at a police station but they will be better able to inform you.

I should be able to help with this as I completed the whole process and was married in July of this year.

The process of marrying a Moroccan as a foreign national is complicated and pricey so be warned!

1st I applied for a police record check in the UK (I'm English). This cost me 拢10 and I applied for it at my local police station. It takes about 2 weeks to be processed. Then I should have applied for a cetificate of eligibility to marry at my local registery office. But I left it too late and paid the price of having to later request one from the British Consulate in Casablanca and boy do they know how to charge! I then obtained a letter from my work confirming that I was in full time employment and my salary. I took all these documents along with my birth cert to Morocco.

When I got there I took the best step that I beleive anyone can take when dealing with these matters and employed an English speaking translater Mr Brahim Beneyamhim from Agadir. The cost of Brahim's service was really reasonable and worth every penny or Dirham if you like. He advised me to get a medical certifcate and a certificate proving I was Muslim. I then went to the Brit Consulate in Casablanca. Where they gave me for the fee of 拢160 an Affidavit of Nationality and Eligibility to Marry and also the statement of honour that I have never married before. I then had to go to Rabat, Annexe du Minist猫re des Affaires Etrang猫res to have these 3 docs certified. This cost the price of 3 stamps but was hassle as the Annex is a confusing place. You need to go there in the morning drop your papers off and recieve a queing ticket. You then come back later in the morning when told and have your 3 docs stamped and certified. Its best to have a maroc speaking friend with you on this one.

After that I went to the Minist猫re de la Justice Section des Marriages in Rabat and obtained a Maroc police check. This was completed in a day and cost 20MDH.

I then took all these papers back to Brahim in Agadir where he translated them all into Arabic. He also wrote a letter to the judge requesting the marraige. He charged me a mere 900MDH for this service and it was worth every penny. My fiancee then had to go to her father and gain a letter of approval, a police check, cert of never having married and a cert of her adress. Brahim put all these papers together with loads of passport photos of us and made about 5/6 files.

We then took the papers to the local family court where the court clerk started the admin process. As I did not have a lot of time to wait I chose to fast track the process by offering the clerk a bribe. This really helped as the clerk ensured that the Wakeel who signs the 1st step got my papers immediately as opposed to them sitting around forever. We then were interviewed by the Wakeel who signed the papers and told us to take them to the local police for checks.

We then went to the local police who interviewed us and again we chose to 'fast track' the process which ensured that it was all done that day instead of taking maybe a couple of weeks. We then took the papers back to the court where a judge signed them off. Then we went to the court apointed Adould who married us. My bride requested a Dowry which I put a down payment on at the Adouls office. This is more a custom than anything else. We were then given a reciept for the Marriage cert which arrived the following week. And now we are married.

We then had a big do at my wifes parents home!
