Takshita? Kaftan? What's the difference?

I was looking at the questions in this section and was wondering what the real difference is between the two? I have seen kaftans that are casual in the stores here in the US but now that I have seen pictures of the dressy ones I cannot tell the difference between them and takshitas.

When do you wear these dressy things? Don't just tell me on big occasions. What are considered big occaisions in Morocco? A baby's birth, a new home party? College Graduation?
Tnx

A taksheeta is two pieces/layers (or more) and is usually the nicest fabric you can find. Silk of course is considered best. Also a taksheeta is usually one of a kind made from a saree that is likely one of a kind. A taksheeta is always formal, never casual.
A caftan is one piece/layer and the fabric can vary from basic to fine. They can be casual for daily wear or formal enough for a party or anything in between.
What you wear where depends on who is throwing what kind of party and how formal they are making it. A wedding without a doubt is taksheeta time but a formal caftan is acceptable too. An aqeeqah can be taksheeta time if you know the person having the party throws a big, formal, fancy aqeeqah.
A new home party, day of circumcision dinner (if different from aqeeqah day and sometimes it is), a birthday party (I am not addressing any religious issues here about b-d parties :), return from hajj party, etc etc can go either way on the dress....again depending on who is throwing the party and how big of a 'shindig' they throw.

Good question. I think takshita you only wear to weddings.

edit: Azzeddine, you remembered! CHOUKRANE!

You may wear a caftan ( a part of moroccan takshita) even on other ceremonies ( A茂d El Kebir, A茂d Seghir, engagement and weeding ceremonies, circumcision of male children of the family, henna ceremony ,even anniversaries.....).
While we are on the subject, happy birthday Fez!
This is a good occasion to wear your takshita this time!
Edit: Marhabane Fez!
A8lane wa sa8lane!

I'm not a specialist, but I can tell you that the Takshita is made by 2 pieces, one on the other; and you also wear a big belt ( we call it "MDEMMA") and it's used for big celebrations like weddings, circumcisions and stuff like that.
While Caftan (I prefer that one actually) is a one piece dress, more comfortable than Takshita and you don't need to wear a belt on it. Women wear it for light celebrations or when they gather for dancing and having a tea and treats.
A woman can give you more details.
