Sexual tourism in Morocco?

I just saw these two videos (in French from M6) about sexual tourism in Morocco and how it started to go up after the tsunami. It also mentions how tourism in general is going up by 20% a year!!! Is this discussed a lot in Morocco? Is it on the news a lot? I have heard it mentioned on answers when ppl come and ask sexually motivated questions and everyone replies "Don't come here for sexual tourism." (me included) but I didn't realize how bad it has truly become.

They are in French but worth watching I think. They even have some hidden camera clips. What do you think? It made me cry!

These might be old (I know some of the stories included in it are old) but it was posted this past summer 2007.

Hey Holy! I knew it existed there. I did not realize to what extent it had grown since the tsunami. Besides that, please, don't get me started talking about Arabs that go there for sex with little boys not just "cheap sex" as you put it. Besides this is about how it has increased since the tsunami and how ppl from all over are flocking there. It also talks about the ppl pimping 8 year old boys to old men. This happens all over the world, I realise but this is a dramatic increase and such sad news...yes, some ppl in Morocco choose to do bad things and then there are others that are used and are too young to fight back. The video even shows a guy that had turned in a French man that had over 50 boy victims and then the guy who turned him in showed up dead and they called it a "suicide"....

Sex will always sell, unfortunately. It's sad to think a country I love as much as Morocco has this problem, but morals and values are declining world wide. What a shame.

This is nothing new. Morocco is famous for sex tourism. This is where arab men go for cheap sex. Everybody knows.

I hope this is journalism trying to exaggerate to sell their story. I hate sexual problems being exported. My prayers are with them, Fez.

Hi there, sex tourism unfortunately takes place in all places, which attract tourism...
I think we need to divide in "normal" sex tourism, where clients pay an adult prostitute, who is selling her sexual favours on her own will. (= Nobody forces her to prostitute herself, she is full of age and so on). People may say, that it麓s against morals and shall be punished harder, but I think, that it麓s the oldest business of the world and it will always be there, in Europe, in Africa and also in Arabic and Muslim countries.
Another thing is forcing people to prostitute themselves and these things shall be punished very hard, as convert another person into a sexual slave to make money out of their misery is one of the most miserable things, which exist.
Due to my opinion, the worst and most inhuman thing is to force children into prostitution, I think as well as these people who provide the clients with the children as well as the clients themselves should be all send to prison and never see the daylight again, as they break children鈥檚 bodies and souls.
Children prostitution is very common in countries like Thailand and most clients are typical mid age and mid class Europeans.
I visit Morocco regularly as I work in tourism branch and we have very strong interests there.
I must say, that prostitution exists, but it麓s not as bad as in Eastern Europe, Thailand, India and occidental African countries.
During the last year I have seen prostitution increased in Agadir a lot, but now it seems that the scene has started to move to Marrakech, as the jet set is going there.
Many girls are not exactly cheap "prostitutes" who go with everybody, they try to find a rich man who falls in love with her, to retire her and have some kind of exclusive relationship.
I even think, that many girls dream of finding a rich guy who desperately falls in love with her and marries her...
I mean, I wouldn麓t call Morocco a destination for sexual tourism... as most of the visitors come for cultural and adventure purposes.

I have to agree with Anita P on all counts.

Having extensively travelled the world I would say that Morocco is far from matching other parts of the world for sexual tourism. Certainly, it is less visable than places such as Eastern Europe and South East Asia.

Unfortunately, this has not always been the case and I understand that before the 1990's Morocco was considered a top destination for Gay men to meet with young male prostitutes and also for peadophiles to prey on young children. My understanding is that King Mohammed VI was outraged by this and has taken measures to ensure that it stopped. However, as with all these things it has probally gone underground. I would hope however that any perpertraters are serveley dealt with as child abuse ruins lives.

As for adult prostitution this mainly takes place in the discos and certain hotels and is very limited compared to places such as Poland and Thailand. Even so I hope it remains in check and doesn't become more widespread.

Thanks for the awareness on this issue. I saw Part 1 on M6 a few months ago and was appalled. I did not see part two until your posting. HOW DO WE STOP THIS? What can be done? What action has been taken to date and what can we do as a community of concerned adults?
This touches me and I don't want to just watch this happen. Are there organizations working on this issue that I can donate time/money/ideas to?
