Travelling to Marrakesh during Ramadan, will I be able to drink alcohol in the evenings? |
are there bars (other than in big hotels) that will be open? and are suitable for women? I am not an alcoholic but would like a couple of drinks whilst on holiday.... ok its not looking like Marrakesh is the best place to get a drink, but how about specifically during Ramadan? how about you respect the country and its culture and refrain from your drunkeness for the couple of nights that you are in marrakesh. Generally bars in Morocco are not suitable for women. If I were you I'd plan on sticking to ones in the hotel. I have traveled through Marrakesh a couple of times. I'd recommend not looking for somewhere to go for drinks. If you are staying in a big new hotel, maybe they have a bar. But it's less hassle to just do without. I wouldn't go into a bar in Morocco. It's not because I am Muslim but because generally speaking the women who frequent bars there are not of the highest moral standing. Try to enjoy your vacation sans alcohol. People who drink are not of the highest moral standards whether they do it in Morocco or wherever. I always pray people would come visit muslim countries and abide by what we beleive in. Having said that, the govt of these countries are equally to blame for bowing down to tourist $$$ and selling out the religion. That is probably not very respectful..... Why do you have to announce that you are NOT an alcoholic? It's as if you are guilty of something...maybe(?). You cannot go without it? according 2 ur question i believe that u r not muslim ,right? First, during any time of the year, drinking alcahol for women in pubic in Morocco is taboo. You will find that even in the cafes you will find a lot of them are just men only. You will find no women... not even waiters. Nobody who answered so far seems to want to just give you straight truth, so here it is. Sure it's disrespectful, but all of the big Marrakesh hotels like the Hyatt and Meridien have bars which stay open during Ramadan and cater to tourists. Also, those in particular do not allow prostitutes in. They are pretty much strictly tourist bars, serving tourists, at tourist prices. yes you can drink during ramadan. cities that are tourist friendly like marrekech will have beer and wine at certain hotels and restaurants. its best if you drink with a man because if you go to the clubs with just women it is not respectful to the culture here and you will encounter problems. I spent several Ramadans in Marrakesh and had no problems at the bars. We were served whatever we wanted and no one was rude about it. Of couse, we behaved ourselves too! |
