How might my fiance and I go about having a beautiful, yet not too elaborate, Moroccan wedding?

We will be holding the wedding in my fiance's country of Morocco; and to my knowledge, there should not be an abundance of guests.

You can have a not too elaborate wedding. Often people hold weddings in their own home and just invite family and the very closest of friends.
Food is pretty cheap here so the cost of that should not really be a big issue. You can rent dresses if you like, hire in cooks and cleaners and really not spend a big amount of money. You can just have one night or you can do the henna party during the day on one day and keep that for just the very, very closest of women. Then on day two have the proper walima/party.

There is no such thing as a non-elaborate Moroccan wedding. Parties run well into the night (2am or later) and the festivities are unlike anything I have seen anywhere. You could have a private wedding and dress the part and have family and friends only invited to the wedding itself and then miss out on the reception but then you are not really having the Moroccan wedding experience.

I agree with Sarah. It also depends on where your fiance comes from. Mine is from a village so they have friends and family come to eat and when the music starts ppl just show up at that door to celebrate. Really, the food is the expensive part.

You can rent dresses and have a friend play the music. In Morocco everybody seems to know somebody with a good sound system and music. Then have another friend or relative or two take the pics. It's actually pretty easy and from what I have seen fairly common.

My husband and I did that - we had just family and a few close friends our age. We rented or borrowed (from his mother) my clothes save for one takshita, did the food at home (rather than catering), hired just a photographer (his friend DJ'd). That way, we had enough money for a real diamond for me :) (Most Moroccan women wear CZs, and I couldn't bear that).
