Marrakesh currency?

what is the currency in marrakesh

The official currency for Morocco, including Marrakesh is Moroccan Dirhams. You may be able to use other money there but it's best to exchange it for the native currency.

The currency of Marrakesh is the currency of Morocco; the Moroccan Dirham.

Is this a trick question? Is the answer really LOVE or something? *ponders*

The Moroccan Dirham, denoted by MAD, is the official currency of Morocco. Made up of 100 centimes per unit, the currency is issued by the Bank Al-Maghrib (Morocco's central bank).

The currency is dirhams. Currently it is about 8 dh for $1.00.

everyone here is so smart ;-P

You know I am starting a anti bestmorocco campaign right here and now

zelo. Morocco does not have 3 currencies. The franc is not the french franc not to mention the franc is not used any longer (the moroccan one nor the french one). Ryal is not a separate currency from dirham. A ryal is more like a nickel, 20 of them you have one dirham.

also 1 dh is not equal to 8.2usd I am guessing you made a mistake with that one.

1 dollar can get you about 8 dirham right now according to the bank next door to me.

The answer is not so easy as you make it out to be!

The OFFICIAL currency of Marrakech (and all of Morocco) is the Dirham... each dirham is broken down into centimes.

1DH = 8.2USD
100 centimes = 1DH

Ok now for the tricky part.

Morocco uses three different types of currency:

1. Dirham -- official currency
2. Riale -- 1DH = 20Riale
3. Francs -- French Francs. 100 Francs = 1DH

You will notice in the souks and in the medina you will find people bargaining in money other than Dirham. It is imperative that you know the exchange rates of all three forms of currency or ask the vendor to quote you only in Dirhams.

There is more about currency at the site below:

The Currency in Marrakesh is M.O.N.E.Y, and Trade occasionally, if you have a nice watch it can buy you a night or two.
The answers above cover your question pretty much.
