Can anyone tell me approximately how much a white gold or silver man's wedding band would cost in Morocco? |
Where would be the the cheapest place to get one. I had planned on buying the ring here, but since my plans changed and I'm leaving in about 10 days, I don't think I'm gonna have time to order the one I wanted off the internet. My fiance doesn't like yellow gold and doesn't want anything fancy. Thanks Sarah T., I didn't know white gold was forbidden too. Thanks Lou, I would prefer platinum plated sterling silver. That is what I originally planned on buying here in the states. You can get a silver ring for about $10, maybe less if you haggle with the pricing. I am not sure about white gold or platinum, but the prices are awesome there compared to the US. Another thought may be titanium, but you must know the exact size, as it cannot be resized (that's what my husband has and I got it for about $50 in the States). Jewelry is cheap in Morocco and from what I see the quality is very good, so shop and enjoy! Muslim men cannot wear gold (I think it's just yellow gold but not sure) or silk. Fez is right about men not wearing gold. It is forbidden in Islam whether it is yellow or white gold. Look for silver, which is also available here but tell them you want silver not white gold, that it is for a man. There are gold/silver shops all over the place and you shouldn't have a problem finding one. Just ask your fiance's mother to suggest one she knows is reputable. Right now I think it is running about 120 dirham/gram. The cost of gold changes daily. . . .know that day's price and the purity of what you buy IE., 18kt or 9kt and the weight. Do the math by multiplying: purity/24 X grams(your ring) / 28.4 (grams to the ounce). The rest of the price would be the Moroccan vendor's mark up and labor cost which you can negotiate or bargain for. . . .about 15%. I am not sure what city you are going but you will not have a hard time finding a good place to buy the ring, just ask your husband's family, most likely they will have a shop where they usually get stuff. Like said before, due to religious reason, your husband will probably prefer a silver ring, I really can't remember how much my husband's cost, but it is cheap. Also it is common in Morocco to find platinum rings, although I am not sure they are really platinum, I suspect they are platinum plated or something like that. Anyway, just to give you an idea of price, a wedding band of platinum and cubic zirconia go for about US$100 and up (at least was the price a few years back when during one of my pregnancies I was so swollen mine wouldn't fit so my husband got me one to wear during pregnancy) You will probably get ripped off, buy one here. Unless you are a jewerly expert, I would go to a jewerly chain or something. I live in Chicago, and there is a place calls Diamond Row, they have quality jewlery for good prices. about $165 USD |
