How common are laundromats in Morocco?

I'm visiting in October and will be there about 3 month. I planned on packing about 2 weeks worth of clothes, but wondered about laundering them. I'll be staying at an apartment during part of my stay, so does anyone know if apartment complexes usually have laundry facilities.

My fiance's mother has a washer and dryer, but I thought it my appear rude to go there every couple of weeks to do our laundry. Of course that wouldn't be our only reason for visiting as I would love to spend lots of time with them, but I don't want them to think that is the only reason we vist.

My husband says they are not very common and although they have a washer (no need for a dryer when you have the whole roof to dry things in the sun) they wash a lot of things by hand (my observations and what he says).

Many apartments are owned individually in Morocco and then rented out and the ones I was in had either a washing machine in the apt. itself or they washed by hand.

You could also get a djellaba when you are there and throw it over you clothes so you won't have to wash everything that often.

edit: As others have mentioned...Moroccan families hardly look at anything as off-putting or an inconvenience.

Well I stayed with my Husbands family when we were there. So, I am not sure if they have laundromats. But, his family didn't use a washer and dryer. They just washed everything by hand. So, I am sure where you are staying, they will have a place that you can wash clothing, even if it is not what you are used to.

If you have to you can always wash in the bath tub (you can find laundry soap in any market there) Then hang the clothing all over the place.

I hope that was helpful.

I don't think it is likely you will find an actual laundromat. Even an apartment complex usually won't have a laundry room. Like Fez said, most apartments are privately owned and you bring your own in if you rent. You may be able to rent a furnished and that would normally have a washer. Most people do not use dryers here as they think it runs the electric bill up too high (I can attest to that not being the truth but try to convince a Moroccan), they hang their clothes out. I do often also since it is so dry here where I live.
Most people in the cities have washing machines now days, smaller towns maybe not. Prices are falling on these types of products, thank God, so more ppl have access.
You can hire someone to wash your clothes or send them to the cleaners, neither costs very much.

In all my wanderings around Sale and Rabat, I only found ONE place where people could do their laundry. Those without a washer and dryer wash their clothing by hand and hang them outside to dry. I wouldn't worry about being an imposition, your fiance's family will probably insist on washing your clothes. Moroccans are very generous and accommodating.

Well, I did not see a laundry mat the entire time I was there. I stayed with a nice family who had a washing machine, but like many other people there, they washed their clothes by hand. I am not sure what you would like to do, but I know if his family is like the ones I stayed with they would not mind at all if you brought your laundry over, they would love to have you in their house no matter what. You will love it there, I did, I have only been home for one month, and I am already missing it. Let me know if you have any more questions. I will help out as much as I can.

Have a wonderful time.

If there are laundromats they are extremely rare. I've traveled a lot in Morocco and I've never seem one. For what I know of Moroccan families, and specially if your fiance doesn't live there and is only visiting, you will be seeing a lot more of his family than you think. So if the apartment where you are staying does not have its own washer, you will either be doing your laundry at your in laws or do them by hand. Of course there is the dry cleaners option but that would turn out very expensive.

Good question, I was wondering the same thing.
Good luck for u!
(all the answers were helpful to me too)
