Wouldn't want to argue with any of the comments here other than to agree that the trip to Marrakech is well worth the Journey. I have been to Agadir a couple of times now and I love it. If you are traveling with Thomas Cook they do a two day excursion to Marrakech and Essaouira for a little under 拢100. Journey out is about 4 hours on a bus with a/c day and night in Marrakech and then on to Essaouira getting back to Agadir about 8pm.

It doesn't give you masses of time in the two towns but it does give you a great flavour of a couple of very different sides of Morocco - Oh and the price includes the hotel overnight and meals - first night they take you to the Dar es Salaam restaurant in Marrakech and it is amazing (apparently it was used for a scene in a Hitchcock movie.

Hope that help but whatever you do you are sure to love it - Morocco is magical and the people are wonderful!!!

Depends on what you are interested in.

Suggested readings. Paul Bowles- The Spider's House, The Sheltering Sky, and maybe Let it Come Down.

Definitely worth a trip to Marrakesh. It is a little far from Agadir and you will need the whole day travelling through the Atlas mountains, where the goats climb the trees. In the old medina is a square where you could be back in ancient times with story tellers, letter writers, witch doctors, snake charmers and tumblers, and stalls selling weird and wonderful foods, the smells are delicious.

Agadir is really nice, but if you get the chance, go on a day trip to Marrakesh. Its a long day but worth it. Its best with a guide 'cos its very easy to get lost in the souks: a maze of alleyways with craft workers and shops/market stalls.

Its really cheap, vibrant and colourful. People are really friendly, but you have to be good at haggling! Even if you want to take a photo of a snake charmer, you pay for it!

Have a fab time :o)

Lucky, I was there just a couple of weeks ago:)
The beach in agadir is beautiful. Along the promenade are restaurants and shops, especially to the north, while further to the south the beach is quieter and that's where most of the hotels are.
You can take the tourist train which will give you a quick tour of Agadir.
The Kasbah is a bit out of the center, about 9 km,the sight from Kasbah over the coast is great.
The Fising Port might also be worth a visit if you like nice fresh fish.
Souq al-Had, you'll see many stalls selling all different spices, many selling Moroccan items, food, textiles and much more.
It's a nice place but if first going all the way to Morocco I would suggest visiting Marrakech, with belly dancers,magicians,tarot-readers and great food and most of all Jam el Fna wher everything you want to see is in one place.
Also, just be prepared for people trying to sell you items a little more expensive tha they really are. But people in Morocco are really nice and friendly.
You'll have a great time there.
Hope you have fun!!

Haven't been to Agadir but hopefully Sarah T will see this and answer as she lives there.

Agadir is definitely more of a 'relax vacation' sort of town. It is not traditional Morocco.
As mentioned above the beach is the best. The souk is good for shopping. The tourist part of town is nice for shopping also and nice for walking. The shopping there will be a bit more expensive then the souk.
Depending on how long you will be here Marrakech is an option but Taroudant is a good/similar option and is MUCH closer. Essaouira is also a closer option and in my opinion a must see.
In Agadir try to catch a few shows. There are a couple of places that you can catch live shows and dinner for a nice price.
Agadir ouelfla (the mountain topsome people call it kasba) is a good tourist view stop though there is nothing to do up there besides look. It is right in Agadir, not 9km.
Enjoy the food in Agadir, the restaurants here are more diverse in cuisine than most cities in Morocco. Travel a short distance north to the town of Aourir, they are famous for their tagines..I personally suggest eating at Baraka, it is the best one. Hit Taghazout which is a bit further north yet and a great beach location. The drive north between Agadir and Essaouira is a beatiful coastal drive and well worth it.
Have fun!
