I am going to montreal in march with my sister and my boyfriend. we are all young. Other than bars/clubs at night, what else is there to do? Museums? Shopping?
Also, has anyone heard of "hotel place des arts"? its the hotel. (is it also a museum or something? when i googled it, thats what came up). is that hotel any good? does anyone know any other cheap but CLEAN hotels?
Thanks!!!!! Montreal is the best city for shopping in North America, in my opinion. Better fashion sense than New York.
There are lots of hotels. Check tripadvisor.com for recommendations. I've heard of the hotel you mention but have never stayed there. There are a couple of Holiday Inns, a couple of blocks from each other in a good central downtown location.
In terms of things to see, there is the Old Port, which is the old historic part of town, some shopping, not so busy in March as it's still winter. There are some good museums and art galleries.
Check out McGill university which is downtown, it's sure to have information on what's going on and of interest to the younger crowd!
for shopping St. Catherine street will keep you busy both above and below ground. Further afield (by subway) Rue St. Hubert is a good option. I would recommend you Islands saint-Helene. You may find clean hotel but not cheap anymore. Most Montreal Hotel were relatively cheap before, ic compare to similar American hotel.
Thanks to the Hight American dollar, many American find it relatively reasonable.
It was so cheap before that those Montreal hotel decided to raise their price because they had a steady flux of American costumers.
But now that the U.S currency is dropping lower than Canadian Dollar currency, they forgot to lower their price. You see, people here are so greedy when it come to profit. For example here we have a taxt name TPS that was 15%.
The government reduced the percentage but still, many commerce charge it again,by raising their price to replace the tax value. This is why so many Montreal are invading New-york to buy cheap goods during summer.
You can have a good time here but don't expect to get things cheap.Quebec is among the most taxed place in the world just behind France.
There is nothing really special here in Montreal that is different that other part of north America.People here speak French while in the us they speak English. We are more exthic divers in Montreal and lot less ghetto that in the united states.
The streets are clean but that's about it.Its a very modern city that was developed on the model of American cities during the 1960s "Revolution tranquille" era.
This is not like you visit rich middle age European historic cities like "Glasgow", "Paris","London".Also you must pay attention to the rising criminality here.Be careful of where you walk and don't get lost anywhere. Places to see in Montreal http://123phototravel.blogspot.com/2008/... Gee, this francopicard character is all about gloom and doom, isn't he?
Some folks, I swear...
He must be a mafioso in the making, lol!
That's odd... I've never heard of the Hotel Place-des-Arts, even though it's right by my house.
Is it a brand new hotel still under construction and under wraps, so to speak?
You claim that you are all young.
How young exactly, if I may be so blunt?
In any event, I have included a couple of helpful and informative links for your perusal...
Good luck and enjoy my beautiful and still relatively safe hometown, lol!
P.S. And francopicard... Shut the hell up, lol! |
