Can you use an american cell phone in montreal?

Can you use an american cell phone in montreal?

Yes. We have Rogers network up here (as well as others) and they are linked with AT&T network in USA.

Whenever I go down to New York or Boston, my phone switches automatically to the US network and goes into "roaming" mode.

Keep in mind that unless you have a good plan, you will probably be paying really crazy prices for the phone calls. We made 6-8 calls while in USA and when I got back the bill for the calls (with roaming charges) was over $20!!

Probably

Oh, Montreal is still in America.

I work for Rogers/fido for the last 10 years.
Yes your phone will work. When you come to Canada you Roam on the Canadian network....which your provifer will tell you the charges per minute before hand ...as romaing unless you have a special north american plan does not count as local minutes.Contact your provider for details

Yes, but it will cost you a fortune unless you have a North American plan.

I think it all depends on what kind of cell phone and network you're using.

When my American boyfriend came to Montreal, he couldn't use his American cell phone at all up here, for some strange reason...

What a drag, right?

Good luck to you though!

Sure you can. Check with your service provider to find out about roaming, per minute and long-distance charges. Also if it'S compatible with our networks (Rogers, Telus, Bell Canada). I used mine in the States and won't ever do so again. I had to pay massive roaming charges, dual long-distance (from the states to Montreal and back to the States) and per minute charges - but that was 10 years ago! An 10-minute call cost me over $75 in charges.
