Have you ever been to Monterrey in Mexico?

If so, what was it like? Was it a safe city? Were the people nice?Would you recommend going there?

Monterrey is probably the most "american" city of M茅xico. I live in Monterrey. You will spend a beautifull time here.
It is a big city, with more than 4 million people, 7 universities, many malls, museums, night centers, a planetarium, zoos.
We have the "Sierra Madre" mountains beside us, you will have a great view of them, and you can climb it(of course in your car) through a very safe road. We have falls, we have caves, all adapted to receive tourists. We are plenty of golf courses, sports centers.
Now we have the International forum of the cultures.
We have a thematic park, with a big convention center, a world class arena, and many thinks more.
Many people here speak english, and you will be safe.

A 4 million people city has crime problems, just as Houston or Atlanta, but it is a very nice and peacefully city.

As you can see, I am proud of my city.

Monterrey is an awesome city to visit. While being the third largest city population wise it is still very provincial and the people are wonderfull and friendly unlike Mexico city for instance. The "Nortenos" pride themselves on being hospitable.

Being as it's a large city you can find malls, great shopping downtown, restaurants of every type and price range and lots of fun things to do all over town. Nightlife is pretty decent even during the week.

If you have children its even better to bring them along as there are a few theme parks.. Plaza Sesamo (for younger children) and Bosque Magico (better rides) which are incredibly inexpensive $10-$12 for all day all ride tickets. Not sure if they are open in the winter months though you should check their sites. Also Bioparque Estrella is nice if you enjoy nature and animals etc.

I would definitely recommend going to Monterrey even if you have never been to Mexico before and as far as safety it is much safer then say a border town.
