Where can I find a loft in Monterrey?

I want to move to Monterrey and go to college there. I dont know if they actually have lofts in Mexico but I would like very much to live in one. If there is hopefully it will be really close to shops and the Macro Plaza. How much do you think it rent for them?

I assume you are either going to study at Monterrey Tech or UDEM. Either way, you don't want to live close to the Macro Plaza. There's some great places to hang around over there, but you still don't want to live there. I agree with the rest of the group, if you are going to Monterrey Tech, live near the campus. It will take you 10 minutes tops to get to the Macroplaza and Barrio Antiguo Areas.
If you are going to UDEM, find a place in San Pedro Garza Garc铆a, which is a city in the Monterrey Metro Area. San Pedro is where the richest people live. It's probably one of the best areas to live, but it is also expensive... it's actually the most expensive city in Mexico. San Pedro also has an area called Centrito Valle, with a bunch of bars and clubs where people hang out during the weekends.

Your best shot to find housing on your own is thru these links:

http://www.metroscubicos.com.mx/m3/index...

You can also call the university and see if they can assist you in some way. Actually both universities have housing inside the campus, you might want to consider that option.

I recomment you use the following city maps so you don't get lost. It's similar to Google Maps but for Monterrey. It's called Lucamap:

If you have any other questions just ask!

Regards

You know it is a big city, right? Probably it is better to live near the school (is it UDEM or ITESM?). We do have lofts, and prices vary.

You can check out internet pages:
http://www.rentasmonterrey.com/
http://monterrey.vivastreet.com.mx/renta...
http://www.lareventa.com/

Or in the newspapers Milenio.com (Monterrey)
El Norte (www.elnorte.com) is better, but you need to sucribe to it in order to read it online.

Really, prices can go from say 2,000 (pesos) up to 15,000 maybe. Consider more or less 10 pesos to a dollar. You would have to give one or two months deposit and probably get some one to vouch for you (probably a letter from the school you will be attending).
If you need a furnished "loft" you might want to up it about 3,000.
"Estudio and Departamento" could mean "loft". "cuarto" means a room inside the house.

Good luck! Find something with an air conditioner.

You can find anything in the newspaper. You should look in "El Norte", they have always something in the adds.
If you want something near to the Macro Plaza, look in "Center", of course it migth be more expensive than some other areas or even district.
We don't use those lofts a lot, you migth find some departments for rent, or you can look for some comercial locals, and find something close to what you are looking for.

Another option is to check in www.rentero.com.mx Good Luck!

Basically you have 2 options:

If you are going to join ITESM (or Tec, as we call it here), it is better to live near it. It is better to live near it because there's a lot going on in and around the campus. Plus, all your friends will be living there. Inside the campus, there are lot of boards with ads offerting appartments for rent.

If you are going to UDEM, do not live near the university. Yes, there are options near it, but practically your social life will be doomed. Even though it will be far, try to live anywhere else (as in San Pedro, which by the way is very expensive) so you can have options as malls, movies or at least supermarkets.

Unless you truly love clubbing, I would not recommend you to live near the macro plaza. It is not a residential zone, so you won't have supermarkets, movies, malls, or anything else in there. Unless you'll buy or rent a car, try to choose where to live in terms of school's location, where will most of your friends live and ammenities.

Regular rents vary from 300-800 USD. It is hard to find under 300 USD, but easily you can find appartments up to 2000 USD. Nevertheless, I would suggest you to set your mark around 500-600 USD. It is very common to share appartments with others.

If you have the money, you may even consider to rent a house, instead of an appartment.
