I am going to mexico, can anyone suggest a calling card for me to take so I can call home to the United States? You can rent a cell phone from Mexitel Cellular (mexitel.net). They are inexpensive, work everywhere in Mexico, and the cost to call the US is $1 for calls up to 20 minutes (and incoming calls are all free) if they can get you a phone with a number local to the place you'll be making calls. They serve mostly the tourist industry so if you are going somewhere less known, you'll want to order your phone as soon as possible so that they will reserve that phone for you. Don't you have a cellular phone??? Most companies can be use in other countries in Central and South America and Europe. Get any pre-paid card that states on the card that international calls can be made with this card. I know Walgreen's sells these cards in multiple minute choices. Often they put their cards on sale; buy one get one free. don't go,US citizens warned as of yesterday, due to rapes, kidnapping, murder in MEXICO,NOT TO VISIT,OR BE AWARE OF PROBLEMS WITH ATTACKS ON u.s. citizens-BEWARE!!!!!! Any calling card you buy here will be difficult to use when overseas - even if it should work, there are issues dialing properly, and sometimes they don't work with payphones. Your best bet is to buy a calling card on arrival. Wait till you get to Mexico to get one at the airport or bus terminal. If you have a cell phone call them to add international calling on your phone before going and roaming. It will cost up to a dollar a minute on cell phone but for emergencies it is a good option. I use my phone with Verizon sometimes when I go to Mexico City and other towns. There is good signal in large areas and some of smaller areas too. You could buy the phone card to make long calls. YOU CAN ET A LONG DISTANCE INTERNACIONAL CARD IN MEXICO, THEY ARE VERY CHEAP, IN ANY SUPERMARKET, USING A CELL PHONE TO CALL FROM MEX, IS EXPENSIVE OR CALL YOUR HOME COLLECT, JUST THE OPERATORS SPEAK ENGLISHSAY POR COBRAR AND THE NUMBER, AREA CODE AND NUMBER |
