How far is Mexico City from Cuernavaca & best way to get there via SAFE/PUBLIC transportation?

I need to go to Cuernavaca Mexico on a last minute's notice. I'm gonna fly into Mexico City and need to find out the best way to get to Cuernavaca, once there. It is important that transportation is safe, clean and not too expensive. If you know any info, please let me know.

I have been to Mexico City and passed by Cuernavaca a few years ago, but I had a rental. I really don't remember much as far as the distance goes, since there was lots of traffic and I was concentrating on the road.

Thanks! :)

There are buses at the airport and at the station on the south side of town. It took like 1.5 hours maybe. The buses are pretty cheap, 1 way was like 20 dollars. But you can hop on a bus at the airport.

I've always traveled to Cuernavaca by car. Most of the trip is wasted in Mexico City traffic. It's best that you get the heck out of the city as soon as possible (Friday afternoons are the worst since a lot of people go to that city on the weekend).

Since getting to the Cuernavaca highway depends on the city's traffic, it can range from 30 minutes to several hours. The Benito Juarez airport isn't too far away from the highway though, but since I'm not that familiar with the area I can't say what are the best local highways.

Once you're in the Cuernavaca highway, the trip takes at most 90 minutes if you drive slowly. The highway is very pleasant but if you're driving in the night, drive safely!!! The highway is in the mountains and it twists and turns a lot.

About 3/4ths of the way, you have a huge (practically 360掳) turn called "La Pera". The signs will warn you ahead when you're getting near it. Especialy if you drive at night, drive slowly and you'll be fine. The rainy season is almost over so there won't be any fog.

I can't say whether buses are the best option or not. Every month you hear on the news another bus that crashes down a cliff killing all of the passengers. Usually the buses are in bad condition but accidents can happen to buses in perfect shape. I've heard good comments about Estrella Blanca buses. I believe the closeset terminal from the airport is the "Central de autobuses del oriente" which is only a few subway stops from the airport.

Best way: get a bus directly from the airport. They will go straight to a bus station in Cuernavaca called "Casino de la Selva" which for me is great, but make sure you are going to that area... if not, try one to "Cuernavaca Centro (downtown)"

I would definitely try the airport bus terminal, although they probably dont have that many buses per day... if not: buses going to cuernavaca usually depart from Terminal del Sur (someone else answered that Terminal del Oriente is near, but beware: NO BUSES TO CUERNAVACA FROM THERE)

It will be very cheap to get there. US20 tops. Take the most expensive fare, because they will be the most comfortable/safe buses.

ETN is good... primera plus is good, estrella blanca is good.
Ask how many seats are there in the bus.. the one with the lesser seats would be my choice.

Transit time from the airport should be about 2 hrs and from Terminal del Sur 1.5 hrs

Good luck

The best way to go is by bus. The UNO or the ADO line are the best two. I have put a web site below where you can get the best routing, times and fares. I have traveled the entire country in comfort on these lines.

First class or deluxe bus. Mexican buses are comfortable and convenient. They're middle class transportation, unlike in the US, so no weirdos at all. As for safety- in the US buses are much safer than cars and its probably the same in Mexico, especially if you avoid the old, beat-up 2nd class buses which seem to have most of the accidents.

You've already got all of the info you need...... the trip does take about 1.5 hours if you don't get stuck in the traffic, the most convenient (and fastest) way to do it is catch a bus at the airport and not worry about transportation within the city, ETN is highly recommendable and the bus/pullman service in Mexico is very reliable and safe in general. We don't get that many accidents, as someone else said. The service is punctual, fast, comfortable and cheap. This is your best option. Hope you have a great time.
