Is Mexico City still surrounded by a body of water? |
Is Mexico City still surrounded by a body of water? No, Mexico City is surrounded by mountains (we're settled on a valley), not by water. The lake that the city was built on has dried long since. However, the soil still has some underground water deposits which make it not be firm enough, and some parts of the city are sinking badly because of this..... Mexico city is huge; you name it, they built over lake texoco and around it and on it. See the article below for a very good explanation of what happened to the lake. No. There is still a small remnant of Lake Texcoco, but it is shrinking. Possibly 98 percent of Mexico City is on Lake Texcoco. Yes, there was some water reported beneath the city. And no the parts the lake is still covering is possibly only 2 percent of Mexico City. |
