Calexico/Mexicali - any opinions?

Has anyone been to these cities? What are they like, and how close together are they? Are there really scorpions everywhere?

Yes I have, No they are not scorpions in neither of those cities. There might be some in other cities of Mexico but definitely not there. The person who answered that it's filled with scorpions there and his made-up stories; needs to get better information before making such a statement. Regarding Tijuana like he said definitely would not recommend it is much much more dangerous than Mexicali.
Mexicali is in Baja and Calexico is the border city to cross into the us. To get to Calexico from Mexicali all you need to do is cross the border. Calexico is a small town that is slowly growing while Mexicali is bigger and many US stores and restaurants are being built there like TGIFridays, Subway, McDonald's, Carl's Jr. etc. The city is very hot during the summer and very cold during the winter. Like all cities it has it's bad and good areas. It's not really a place to tour or vacation at though.

lol it does not get to 125 lol the highest has been 120 . hahawell its ok i guess people live there... there isn't much to do for fun so thats why mexicali is right next door they have a lot of stuff to do and a lot of good restarunts. Calexico is part of the imperial valley just google it. Report It

Yes, I been to both. Mexicali is on the Mexican side and Calexico is right across on the US side. They are 100 miles east on Tijuana. Border towns are not exciting at all. Thye can also be sonewhat dangerous, especially for non-natives. They can pick you out like a lion picks an injured gazelle. It is also so hot at times, it is unbearable. You hear rumors of people frying egs on their hood. Scorpions, poisonous snakes and spiders infiltrate this region. Remember that it has desert like conditons. Also when it rains, its typical they find themselves inyo homes (hotels included). Scorpions are very typical in Mexico,. In Durango, scorpions is almost the state mascott and in Guadalalaja, where I am from, I have had many relatives bitten by these clever thingies. They tell you things like never pick up chairs by their bootm, always shake your covers before going to sleep and so forth. If you are looking for border action, Tijuana is a much better place. I see a lot of people here ask, when I go to Monterrey what can I do? No one can answer that, one must ask yourself, what do I want to do? You can tell me the best ,museums to go to, but if I am not into it, what is the sense. I guess this applies to anything in life. If you live near by, yes I would recommend Mexicali, say hello to my 2 Uncles. If you live far, not really worth the trip. You can pick up better deals to Puerto Vallarta!

There are no scorpions there. Both cities are right next to each other, back to back. Mexicali has a population of almost 1,000,000 people and it is the capital of Baja California. Calexico is a small town around 30,000 people.
The weather is very hot, up to 125 degrees F in the summer.
