Is february okey time to visit Mauritius?

I am planning to visit mauritius in the month of February. Is it a good time to go there, in terms of weather and all. Also what are the things to take care, while visiting mauritius.
Thanks in advance

I heard that jan/feb is cyclone period. Are they severe(of what category) and what care need to taken. Is it safe to travel that time?

Absolutely! Mauritius is a good place to visit just about any time. But...February is summer there so plenty of sunshine and watersports. In my opinion it is too hot in some places. The capital, Port Louis is very hot and humid November through March, but along the coastline where most of the resort hotels are found, it is less humid. You should go to Port Louis though for shopping if you have a chance. Caudan waterfront is a nice place to have lunch (there are some shops there as well). The Port Louis market is interesting. You do need to barter if you want to buy anything at the market. They will ask you much more than they expect to get. The best thing is to price things in the shops to get an idea of the prices asked.
There is a risk of cyclone in February, as it is during the cyclonic season, but only once every few years do they have really bad ones. Most of the cyclones that hit Mauritius bring heavy rains, heavy winds but only cause minimal damage (mostly loss of crop, short term power loss). There are more severe ones but as I said only every few years. They had a very bad one in 1989 (Firinga) and another pretty bad one in 2002 (Dina). Both of these happened in January.

It's the cyclone season. That being said, they don't have one each year, and it only lasts one day, usually. It can be fun to watch, if you're in a buildning that's safe. Otherwise, it's hot, so I hope you like hot temperatures (humid). Personnally, I love it! I've never been there, though, so can't help you more (I lived in Reunion Island, an island right next to it).
PS: Dodos are extinct.

It should be on the warm side.watch out for dodo birds

Yes, it is basically a suitable time to go there as the climate is not that bad. What i mean here, its not cold, but you'll have plenty of sunshine. Temperature should be around 25-28 degrees. Ummm, if you need more information ,just click on this link http://www.mauritius.net/. Hope this helped.

February, March and April are the best times of year to visit the country if you live in a temperate area. It's hot but not burning hot. Although it is still cyclone season, you'll also find that mild cyclones aren't too bad if you're used to temperate weather as they really clean the sea and it's warm rain as opposed to freezing rain that keeps you confined to your hotel. Cyclones also rarely hit the island.

This site (http://www.lonelyplanet.com/worldguide/d... gives you the best information of what to be careful of if you're a foreigner in the country. Do remember your maleria tablets and maleria protection (nets and Avon's Skin So Soft oil are the best way to go).

It will be a lovely time of year. I have never been there but I am South African and Mauritius is not that far from RSA. I would think you need to aware of snakes, mosquitoes and sharks.

First of all bear in mind that Mauritius is a tropical island - weather is quite hot during this period. May range up to 34 - 35 Celcius on the coasts or in the capital. Higher up (centre of the island) temperature may decrease to 26 - 27 Celcius. Nights are usually less hot (LOL) Wearing of cotton shorts and T Shirts usually OK all around.
No snakes, no carnivorous animals (except in parks). Do not forget to use mosquito repellent and wear hats or caps. February is in the cyclonic period but all depend on your chance - at times no cyclones visit at all during one whole year.
Plenty of interesting sites, lots of beautiful beaches, nice hospitality of the people. In brief, nice place and enjoy.
