Do holidaymakers actually stay inland or is it always the Mauritius beaches ?

The inner island has so much to see and yet all the brochures for the island never details anything more than the beach complex's. Why?.
Are holidaymakers nowadays so regimented that they are unable to function as an organiser themselves? - is it holiday complex, or nothing?.
Or is the inner part of the Island dangerous to go and venture into nowadays?. (I'm thinking of Curepipe, Vacoas, Bonne Terre etc)

I used to stay in Quatre-Bornes and had a fabulous time. Nowhere in Mauritius is dangerous, the people are amazingly friendly and hospitable and the bus services are superb -- cheap, frequent and reliable. There is so much to see and during my holidays there I spent hardly any time hanging around on beaches. Try meeting the Mauritians and enjoying their lifestyle. Have your lunch in the market at Port Louis and whatever you do don't miss the Pamplemousse Botanical Gardens (now renamed Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Gardens) with their huge water lily pads. Enjoy!!

Beware the chikungunya.

beaches, thats what people go there for

There are beautiful places on the inner island, and no danger at all. You must visit Curepipe and Vacoas certainly. Also, Chamarel falls and color earth and volcanic peak of Flic an Flac is a must see.
