Heys frends... do u think mauritius is evolving in the rite way and is it successful economically?

i am a mauritian so wanted to hav the world's view about my country.. i fing my littlle island to b well bt its quite harsh 4 the habitants....
cheers

Yes it is
1.The World Bank has commented that "to maintain economic growth, Mauritius must move more into higher technology industries and services". In a bid to assist with this transition the Bank has made available a US $16 million loan that "will make broad improvements in the University of Mauritius and at polytechnic institutes.

2.Agreement on Textiles and Clothing.
According to Seegobin, "this means Mauritius will have to compete with textiles from these big producers", such as China and Vietnam, in markets where it had traditionally held a trade advantage. "It's already putting a lot of downward pressure on prices. With the Hong Kong companies [which set up shop on the island] no longer having that competitive advantage [of free market access], they are going back to mainland China and also to Vietnam."

3.The Sugar Protocol is an agreement between governments whereby the EU member states undertake to buy and import agreed quantities of sugar at guaranteed prices from ACP states. Mauritius has benefited substantially from this agreement.

LOOKS good don't you think.

i think it needs more clitirusians to evolve properly.

i think it's strongly on it's way! I've only been there once, and let's face it, I wasn't paing that much attention to the economy! Though the stability of the country was evident!

The Time published a recent story on country's economies - especially emerging economies. Mauritius was featured as one of the best in Africa, and there was a big article on industries and tax, etc. I think it's articles like those who will start to place Mauritius on the map - other than for it's amazing hospitality and great vacations!

So yes - I think Mauritius is on the right way to a succesfull economy! And it will have positive benefits for all the inhabitants! Good Luck! =)

Well i was there in 1995 and the Rupee was 4 to 1 to the SA rand. I was there in January 2008 and the rupee is still 4 to 1 to the SA Rand, so in the last 12 years the rupee has not devaluated. So that means the economy is stable. The prices are about the same as in SA for food, clothing etc. Do not know about housing. I love Mauritius, and its people. It is such a safe country and the people are extremely helpful and friendly. I did not see one beggar and think the Mauritians are such proud people. You are so fortunate to be a Mauritian. Oh and did I say how safe your country is compared to SA? I think you are on the right track.
