Things to do in east manchester?

I live in east manchester, droylsden to be exact.
in my opinion, id go into manchester if your looking for sights or a night out.
theres also portland basin in ashton under lyne and stalybridge is a really good place to eat and drink.
but it does depend where abouts in east manchester you are.

go into town canal street and get drunk , great atmosphere , good night

Is that on the other side of west Manchester

get beaten up or knicked
