Woodhouse Park and Whythenshaw?

I don't want any stupid responses, I'm really looking for some serious responses.
What are the above two placs like to live in, Im currently living in Eccles and want to buy a house and want to know what these two places are like.
any help wud be greatly appriciated.
Thank you

Whatever you do - don't buy in Wythenshawe, or Woodhouse Park. They seem relatively cheap to some of the surrounding areas - but they are cheap for a reason. Sadly, everywhere within those regions gets tarred with the same brush - but they're not too great a place to be. Try Newall Green if you want nicer, but more reasonable, or Cheadle, or surrounding areas. Sale, Timperley, Altrincham, Hale, Hale Barns, Bowdon, all nice areas. Urmston, Flixton nice too. Steer clear of those two you mention though! Sorry if I offend anyone decent living in those areas - dont mean to.

Watch Shameless and stay in Eccles.

Whythenshawe rather than eccles but YOU HAVE TO vist and have a look around. Dont depend on people here, this is your life hun.xx

Woodhouse Park is a locality in the south of the area of Wythenshawe, in the city of Manchester in North West England.

The area encompasses Wythenshawe town centre and runs south to Manchester Airport. To the west the area is bordered by the M56 motorway from which it is served by Junctions 4 (Wythenshawe) and 5 (Manchester Airport). To the east is the town of Heald Green, which is in the borough of Stockport.

The other areas of Wythenshawe are: Baguley, Benchill, Moss Nook, Newall Green, Northenden (previously a village), Peel Hall, Sharston and Northern Moor.

The majority of housing in Woodhouse Park is either council housing or former council housing. Following a democratic vote, the council properties are now under the control of local housing associations. Due to greater access to government funding, the housing associations have invested a great deal into the local area, improving the quality of maintenance of the housing stock. Local leisure facilities have also been improved as part of an urban regeneration programme.

A substantial amount of new housing (both private and social housing) is being built on grey-field and brown-field sites throughout the area in an attempt to encourage local investment.[

Much public investment has taken place since 2003, including the (partial) rebuilding of Wythenshawe town centre. Further investment has been earmarked, including connection to the Manchester metrolink and greater expansion of the local town centre shopping facilities. This coincides with a local developmental plan that incorporates Manchester Airport.

Wythenshawe is a district in the south of the City of Manchester, in North West England.

Wythenshawe has often been referred to as one of the largest council housing estates in Europe, though now a significant proportion of the estate is privately owned housing. The district comprises nine areas: Baguley, Benchill, Peel Hall, Newall Green, Woodhouse Park, Moss Nook, Sharston, Northern Moor and Northenden.

The boundaries of these nine areas have been continuously changed throughout the district's history, and previously known areas such as Brownley Green and Crossacres have since been assimilated into one of the nine areas listed above, though many residents still refer to them by name.

History
The name of Wythenshawe seems to come from the Old English wi冒ign = "withy tree" and sceaga = "wood" (compare dialectal word shaw). This name originally referred only to Wythenshawe Hall or its site.

Wythenshawe HallFor many centuries the Tatton family owned Wythenshawe Hall and much land in what is now Wythenshawe. Manchester Corporation, who were in desperate need of land to house the city's rapidly increasing population, pressured Mr. Tatton to part with the land in 1926. What was once farmland was transformed into one of the largest housing estates in Europe. Wythenshawe and Sale East is now a parliamentary constituency with five wards in Manchester and three in Trafford.

Immediately south of Wythenshawe is Manchester Airport, formerly called Ringway Airport. Before Manchester's Barton and Ringway Airports were laid out, three farm fields lying between Rackhouse Road and Wythenshawe Road in what is now the north edge of Wythenshawe were used as a temporary municipal airfield between April 1929 and early 1930, a converted barn acting as the hangar.

Governance
The area used to comprise its own parliamentary constituency, having been Manchester Wythenshawe since the 1960s and represented by Alf Morris of the Labour Party. Prior to the 1997 election, the boundaries were redrawn and part of the neighbouring area of Sale included in the seat. The constituency is now called Wythenshawe and Sale East. In the same year, Alf Morris stepped down and was replaced by Paul Goggins. It is still a safe Labour seat. Wythenshawe typically returns all Labour councillors in local elections.

Geography
Wythenshawe is situated south of Manchester City Centre and is the southernmost district within the City Of Manchester boundary.

The district falls under the authority of Manchester City Council.

Economy
Many houses previously owned by the council are now under the control of local housing associations, such as Willow Park in Benchill. Responsibility for the housing stock continues to be transferred from the local council to housing associations in other areas of Wythenshawe as well. The housing associations have invested a great deal into the area and have improved the quality of the local housing stock.

The Civic Centre in WythenshaweSeveral greenfield and greyfield sites have been opened up to developers and there are a great deal of new housing developments within the town.

The town centre was renovated between 1999 and 2002, to include new stores and other new features. The main street now features gates that are locked at night to prevent the vandalism that was seen in previous years. The tunnel going between the multi-storey car park and the large supermarket building now features a mosaic displaying various aspects of the town. The Forum centre, which houses a library, leisure centre and other amenities, has also been renovated in a more youth-centric, modern style.

I used to live in Woodhouse Park and moved to Eccles!. I found the area very green and leafy.Tree lined streets. Lots of open spaces.
The grotty flats I lived in have been demolished to be replaced by houses. There is a lot of money being pumped in Woodhouse Park and Wythenshawe.
You will get a lot of house for your money if you buy there. A friend of mine has a huge 3 bed house with a massive garden with mature trees in a select cul-de-sac. 拢120k should get you a similar property. Big 4 beds cost another 拢15k more.
It has been said that in 5 years there won't be a council house left in Wythenshawe. People have been priced out of Heald Green, and so have bought in Wythenshawe getting twice the house for half the money!.
The airport has direct trains into Man city centre that run 24 hours. Employment prospects are good at the airport.
The dreadful old Co-op on the precinct has been replaced with an Asda. The market is good including the flea market.
The Forum is excellent with theatre, cafe, library ( opens Sundays!) bars etc.
The roads I would avoid because you are under the flight path of incoming planes are Shadow Moss Road, although the properties all have triple glazing courtesey of the airport.
Where I lived (Painswick Park - no problems at all in 3 years) you can hear the planes being moved about, but it is not loud or ever woke me up!.
Go and drive around the roads looking at what is for sale and book a few veiwings to see how big the houses are and the different styles. A lot of new private homes sit side by side with the council stock.
The pubs aren't very good, everybody goes to Gatley for nice village pubs.
