Best 4* Hotels in City Center Manchester?

I will be staying in Manchester for a few days.
What are the best hotels in the City Center to stay at.
within walking distance of the shops..

I used to work in Mcr city centre. The city centre is quite compact, you can easily walk to the shops from most of the hotels.

Look at the Midland Hotel. The Britannia Hotel or The Palace Hotel.
All of these are quite posh and probably a bit pricey but the are all in the city cente and great for getting to the shops, if you don't mind 10 mins or so walking.
Manchester is a great city. Go to the public library, its a round building! Also try to find the Hidden Gem. It is a tiny church (Catholic I think.)

If you want theatres, clubs and night life you can't go wrong, but I don't think you could call it the city that never sleeps, if you know what I mean. My son goes to NY and shops there, he says the prices are incredible compared to here!!! So I wouldn't expect any bargains, you will probably fall about laughing when you see our prices. If you do want to see the shops then take a look Kendals on Deansgate. David Beckham used to shop there when he played for Manchester United. In fact most of the celebs do when they are in Manchester. Also you could visit The Trafford Centre it is a big mall outside of the city, Harvey Nicols etc. I think you can take the tram to get there..

Have a good stay.
Ella.

P.S. I forgot to say, Manchester is full of lovely Victorian buildings, there is the Town Hall on Albert Square (statue of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's husband.) Also John Rylands University Library is on Deansgate, a lovely building and is worth looking at. It contains very old books and manuscripts. There used to be a guided tour if you are interested, check it out to see if it's still available.

try here http://www.greatjohnstreet.co.uk stopped here myself its lovely

Hilton, Deansgate.

You could spend an authentic weekend in Manchester and stay where many of the locals normally choose - a plush and very exclusive victorian boutique hotel called HMP Strangeways. Only a short walk from the shops, but make sure you book early as demand is always very high from the locals.

Radisson Edwardian. Possibly the best hotel I've ever stayed in. We walked all over Manchester from there.

Alice B get a grip with your Alta egos all pointed to Manchester.

I bet you were bumped by a Manc lad who realised you are a narrow-minded, immature person who needs to get a life instead of pointless questions/answers on Manchester crime.

How old are you 6 cause you act like a child and many will agree with me on this.

GET A GRIP AND GET A LIFE.

Sorry, this isn't an answer to your question, but it's a warning.

Don't listen to anything from Walter Smith, Alan.Poop, emmasmurf, Eric V, karenturd, Alice B, John Dong & Sarah.**** - this is a wind-up merchant who goes by all these names in this forum. You can tell as (they) have all joined in the past week or so. These supposedly different people have an odd habit of asking the same questions over and over again (along the lines of 'how many gay or pedo people have been shot this week in the decaying mill town of Gunchester'), and their only answers are wind-ups about how much gun crime there is supposed to be in Manchester. This individual also votes his answers as best answer using a different profile. It would help if as many people as possible put them on their contacts & report them (him) every time he answers or asks a question. He votes for himself using another name & tries to cheat his way to best answer.

Probably best to stay outside of Manchester in Cheshire as the city centre is still fairly ran down and the local hotel offering quite poor, mainly grotty B&Bs - think of Blackpool type standard its local neighbour.
