Is one whole day enough to see all the interesting places in Melaka?

My friend and I are traveling to Malaysia next week and we plan on visiting Melaka for a day. Is one day (7am-6pm) enough to see all of the interesting spots in Melaka?

Also, are there roundtrip buses available in Kuala Lumpur to Melaka? Are trips every hour? And lastly, how much money do we have to spend (in RM) to be able to enjoy the whole day (meals and shopping--you can scrap the antiques--included)?

So you have approximately 11 hours to spend including travelling time. Let's say you are going there from Kuala Lumpur and if you are travelling by express bus it would take average 5 hours (to and fro ) So you have about 6 hours to visit Melaka. With 6 hours you have sufficient time to visit the city centre where most tourists converge. Take a cab / bus from the bus station to Bandar Hilir. In Bandar Hilir you can do some shopping ( souveniers and antiques ) and visit the A Famosa, the famous church, museum, ancient ship etc. These places are all within walking distance. If you are too tired to walk further, just hop into one of the colorful rickshaws ( about 8 Ringgit for a short distance ride ) take some photos, you'll never forget the experience. Bring a cap / hat as you most probaby would have to walk under the hot sun. Melaka city centre is not big, 6 hours is just nice for you to visit. I do not know the exact bus fare to Melaka but it wouldn't cost you more than 50 Ringgit for a return trip. Eating is inexpensive, you can have a very decent meal ( at decent place ) for 15 - 20 Ringgit for two persons. 120 Ringgit would be sufficient to cover your expenses to Melaka ( bus fare, rickshaw ride, meals, entrance fee to some places and some light shopping ).

well.. the historical sites were more less nearby each other.. so by spending about one day should be enough.. however,
u'll missed out other sites that are quite far away from town such as Portugese square, nice delicious (in umbai & others), other sites which is quite far from town.. in other hand u need a least one day for site-seing & shopping.. especially the night market in Bandar Hilir..
