Christmas in Malaysia - what to do where to go??

We are Australian and will be backpacking in Asia. We will be in Malaysia at Christmas. Where would be the best place in Malaysia to stay at this time? What can we expect in the way of things to do and places to go on this day. Is it a public holiday?

hey Australian dude, listen to me........i'm a local so i think i know a thing or 2 bout malaysia.....

first thing if you like clean and peacefulness or an environment with actually consist of local malaysian go to sarawak it the lower part of sabah (sabah is the one with the dog head thing)
sarawak is by all means different from sabah but they have a better control of the immigrants so the streets are less crowded and the shopping complex is smaller but locals all the way........
now if you do go to sabah you can fly(i recommend this) its cheap if you use air asia and of better queality if you use MAS but eitherway you dont want to drive for 2 days to sabah dont you?(2 days is only if you have an overnight break(i reccomend in sandakan)

i dont want to insult the sabahans cos i am 1 of them but as soon as you leave sarawak you will see that the people of sabah has a high ratio of immigrants which are filthy not to mention dangerouse,do you realise that in the past these same people have stabed tourist like you in the back with pointy spears!yes spears!(who thoughts you could get those nowadays!)

in other cases, the left tourist with a binch of eggs that turned out to be eggs from an endangered species of turtle and they took the blame.........

so if dont wanna go to sabah go to west malaysia Malacca a pretty boring place unless you enjoy old building and lots of them..........johor baru, once you reach here you can simply drive to singapore.....

Kuala lumpur malaysia's capital you should go almost everywhere by LRT as the taxi drivers are all liars but you wont get stabbed by a spear here........the worst case scenario a guy steals everything from you and you end up like that Pakistani guy, stuck in an airport forced to beg for tonights meal,i guess thats not so bad right?

btw you can also drive to thailand through malaysia

there are lots more to malaysia but get a guide i dunno anything else(just kidding i do but am too lazy to wright it down)

yes. of coz public holiday. i suggest you to go to Sabah and live with people who live inside the very rural village. maybe Bundu Tuhan. lots of tourist spend their time there and celebrating crustmas with the villagers...

Christmas is not super duper grand in Malaysia but if u do want to feel the xmas spirit.. then u should head down to : -

Malacca - esp the Portugese Settlement Village.. Its really grand this time of a year.. With good folk music dance and food its def the place to be during xmas.

In the State of Sabah and Sarawak @ Borneo Xmas is celebrated at a bigger scale than in Peninsula Malaysia. This is due to the high concentration of Christians there.

But on the whole i would recommend Malacca City !

happy holidays !

Try visiting Terengganu.
They are holding an International Boat Race in conjunction with the monsoon season. Millions of people flock to the West Coast of Semenanjung Malaysia for that purpose.

Welcome to Malaysia, and have a great time here!

Try langkawi:-http://www.langkawi-info.com/

Head down to busiest place for shopping in Bukit Bintang where lots of activities been line up for this coming X'mas and New Year party.
Apart form that, you can enjoy lots of foods and shopping galores on this whole bazaar street.
Get a hotel near to this road so you don't have to get caught in a jam...Believe me it will as good as in S'pore for shopping if not better cos' it's much cheaper!

genting highland in pahang is the best place to celebrate christmas I think,..
