Did you know that Lord Hanuman and Sun Wukong are NOT monkeys?

Ramayana tells about the VANARA species. Who are near relatives of homo sapiens. These people look like apes but with long tails. These VANARAs are very intelligent generation with having their own social systems, religious ideas, marriage systems, language, education, autocracy system of kingdom, with other important branches like army, and other controlling systems.

Usually without any knowledge of their importance, some people recognise them as 'monkeys' . But it will be our ignorance if we treat these people as monkeys; because to the monkeys the Sanskrit word is "MARKATA", but not at all Vanara. Valmiki was well aware about this fact and called them Vanara. But this rare generation is lost now, that we can not find these people anywhere. It is doubted that, there may be some people hiding themselves in their own colonies in deep forests or mountain valleys of Himalayas.

HANUMAN, is such a Vanara, considered as the most nearest friend and devotee of Rama, had had great heroic deeds and being respected and worshipped all over India

Sun Wukong is considered as another appearance/metaphor of Lord Hanuman and the Vanaras, sharing similar traits and qualities as portrayed in the Ramayana on Lord Hanuman's.

As a very matter of fact! There are episodes of legends from the Ramayana and that of the Buddhist epic 'Journey to the West' shares striking similarities in lessons of friendship, loyalty and devotion.
