And they all got so high on grass that's what my friend said. He told me when Deep Purple was coming up with that song in 1972 there was a Malaysian dude who introduced to them ganja/grass smoking using the coconut leaves by rolling them up like a kinda barrel called ' Culin ' then this culin was half submerged in a glass of water. The sound it produced was like gluk-gluk-gluk-glucc-glucc-glukc.......a long drag. That was when one of the band members had a bright idea and with a shout he exclaimed " Smoke On The Water !"
