Is there anyway to meet the orangutangs in Borneo?

I see English presenters holding the baby orangutangs on tv quite often. I was wondering if there is any possible way of going there and helping with their efforts to help them. I don't want a holiday to watch them feeding from a distance I would like to go over there in the next few years and spend and few months at a time working and helping them, feeding and teaching the babies how to look after themselves etc.

to be a "professional" in the work of caring for these animals, i am afraid you might need the appropriate qualifications and experience. unfortunately none of the sanctuaries' website give any helpful information. but you can check out these websites. there are contact details that you help you get started.

Also, something very interesting under that second link. look particularly at the "Notes about the orang utan project".. it says "At Sepilok you will have the opportunity to work with these gentle and highly intelligent red apes in their natural environment. Interaction with these remarkable creatures, man's closest relative, will be an unforgettable experience!". it sure looks like what you would like to do!!

I went to a place called Semongok which is about 12 miles from Kuching when I was there. They keep OrangUtans there and is a tourist must-go.Perhaps you can approach the people there and work something out.Good luck.

you go to Shangrilla Hotel Tuaran located at Tuaran Sabah Malaysia they do have baby orang utan.

yes of course, many orangutans in Borneo. some in West Malaysia too.

Place like 16miles Jalan Labok Sandakan, Sabah if I'm not wrong. Hope this could help you.

come to Sabah.. There is a lot of OrangUtan... if u want to work as a volunteer there, i think you shold hv recommendation letter from ur embassy and any other expert related to this topic..

Would you like to work with a mad cow?

Anyway, there are few orangutans in here, namely Gab-Bodoh, Jedi Sepiens and Bean (the white orangutan), which is very rare to be found.
