How many hours is it from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok by train ? and where can I book for train in KL?

You will have to take the 8.00pm train from the KL Central railway station. On board the EL7 train "Express Langkawi" a North-South bound train which travels all the way from Hatyai to/from Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur-Hatyai bound trains would cost about approx. RM50.00 above. Some people might want to take a bus from Puduraya which leaves at 11pm, at about RM30 to RM40 (may be a little bit more, depending on companies)...

Arrival time of the train to Hatyai is usually delayed by an hour due to the connection of coaches and service at the Butterworth station around 6.00am in the morning...

Then, by another 30 minutes at the immigration at the Padangbesar station, near the border of Thailand and Malaysia around 9.00am or so...

For those who would like to change money, this is the time... Ms. Lalitha (a Southern Muslim Thai) would be walking around with her money bag... "Tukar wang!!! Change money!!!"... Her rates are the BEST ever, considering the rates I had been given by her and those from the banks even in Hatyai (just forget about Bangkok or anywhere else... its too much)... I would usually have a pleasant chat with her until we arrive at Hatyai Junction (the railway station), and she would tell me about the stuff just to 'catch up' with news and business...

Arrival time in Hatyai would often be 11.30am or noon -it depends...

Next train for Bangkok... 3.00pm (if tickets are sold out, I'd take a bus, which usually costs me lesser than my train ticket). Hatyai-Bangkok bound trains would cost approximately 800 Baht (depending on coach/class of seat).

The atmosphere in Thai trains compared to the Malaysian seems very different indeed... in comfort wise, I'd give a 6/10 for Malaysian and 5/10 for Thais...

Arrival time in Bangkok would be approximately 10.00am to 11.00am, depending on the punctuality of the coach...

You may take the express coach from Butterworth directly to Bangkok, but since you are referring to Kuala Lumpur, this is the 'only' possibility.

There's no way to book a train ticket online (that I know of). You will have to buy it in advance from ANY train/KTMB station if you are planning to guarantee yourself a seat prior to traveling.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

as a malaysian, i dont know that there is a train from kuala lumpur to bangkok....

but maybe im wrong

The International Express starts from Butterworth. It use to start from KL.

Although the express train is run by Thai Railways .. if im not mistaken u can purchase the ticket with KTMB

First take Ekspres Langkawi KUL - Butterworth ( 10 hours)

then switch to Ekspres Antarabangsa Butterworth - BKK (almost 20 hrs)

cheers !
