People normally said go Dutch or AA when comes to outing with a group..?

..so why is it called "go Dutch" or "American style". Are ppl from these 2 countries really so stingy?

The stereotype of the Dutchman among the English in the 17th Century was somebody stolid, miserly, and bad-tempered, and these associations, especially the stinginess, were linked to several phrases.

Others include Dutch widow, Dutch auction, Dutch uncle.

However, I've never heard "American style!"

It's a good question and I think the first answerer is correct, another saying is 'Dutch courage' which means being brave while under the influence of alcohol!

Ironic, isn't it? In America it's 'go dutch' and in Holland it's 'go American'. The Dutch have a reputation for frugality and the Americans for being cheap. There is a difference.

We always said it was "Dutch" when your date had to pay for her own expenses.
I have no idea about the origin, but I have never heard to go "America"
My experience is that most people are not stingy, and especially Americans.
Americans give more money to charity than most countries total gross national product each year.
