Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world and b&bs are really a feature of a western civilisation. You will find that modest hotels are very cheap to stay in. It might be a wise precaution to take with you (as I did) a special bolt to lock your door, as this is not always a feature of rooms in those parts.
