What are homes like in Madagascar?

What is are the exteriors made out of? What are the interiors like? And what kinds of manners and traditions do they have at meal time?

Sometimes there will be rows of 2-storey brick houses on a hillside. In villages houses are usually rectangular positioned from north to south with the door facing west and the bed facing east, the direction which has some religious significance as facing Jerusalem. In the Central Highlands houses are made of brick or mud and consist of either 1 room or 2 levels with a single room upstairs and downstairs. In the coastal areas, the dwellings are made of wood, bamboo, or fibres and are occasionally built on stilts. A woven mat is commonly used as a bed. Often there are no tables, chairs or other furniture in the homes. It is a very poor country and such housing as there is is perenially under threat from cyclones.
