Im going to Madagascar next year, and I have to plan things to do, has anyone been and have any suggestions?

An enjoyable journey is to follow national route number 7 from Tana to Tulear , which takes in the towns of Antsirabe , Ambositra , Fianarantsoa , Ambalavao , Ihosy and Toliara as well as providing access to scenic attractions such as Ranomafana National Park (lemur spotting and hot springs), Isalo National Park, the Fianarantsoa-Manakara Rail Journey , home made paper factories , spiny forests and world class diving at Ifaty .
Other popular destinations include the islands of Nosy be in the northwest and St. Marie off the coast of Toamasina in the east, Morondava for its avenue of baobab trees in the west, the magnificent harbour of Antsiranana (Diego Saurez) in the north, and Port Daulphin ( Taolagnaro ) in the south

Most travellers visit the quiet coastal area of Ifaty, featuring the villages of Ifaty, Mangilly and Mandio Rano, or sit under a palm tree on a white sandy beach. With coral reefs just offshore, sea breezes whispering in the casuarina trees and a relaxed tropical ambience.
There's whale-watching in July and August, and the amazing spiny forest along the road just north of Mangilly is well worth a look

Ambohimanga, Antananarivo
The former royal capital and its palace on a steep hill offer stunning views overlooking rice terraces.

madagascar is cool you should look at all the leamers (type of monkey)and as many animals you can see because there are so many exotic animals. its amazing there. you're lucky!

I've been there for a reportage.

Just few things :
-it's a magic,wanderfull country.
-The best,is to go in company of someone, because depending from the places where you will go,in two or more is better.Out small villages or the capital is wild.
-They are "big spaces",long distances to cover, sometimes. The roads are not "at the top",or there are not, and, if you will want to move by car you need someone as a confiable guide.
If you'll have maps and you'll make calculations about distances and time to cover them, don't use "your" system to calculate....Sometimes,depending from the season and the road, just to cover 10 miles you can take one or two days.
Not easy to find hotels .At most, along the roads, you can find little hotels and rarely.Take information before about it.
You can find in them modest accomodation and food..Luckily,they have a good variety of wines produced in their country (French were there for years...).Good rum too.

The best,to avoid long distances covered by car, go by plane. There are internal flight. Not very sharp with the timing...
In this way,I suggest to you to visit FORT DAUPHIN.in the south east and the natural reserve of BERENTHY,with the "LEMURS KATTA" and other species of nocturnal ones. They are just amazing.
In Fort Dauphin you can find some good accomodations.

-Then,try to go to NOSY BE,an island in the north west.Nicknamed the "island of the scents",because at evening the ILANG ILANG tree allows his flowers to release the sweet scent. They are Lemurs too, watewfalls,a wanderful sea and nature. You can dive too.In the island they are few diving centers.
Almost everybody talk french. The people are kind.
Bring your camera with you !!!!!

To know more about ,buy a book about it.

P.S.Try to not miss the market of the Friday,in Tananarive, the capital. You can find there precious stones, spices, tropical fruits and a lot of other interesting things.
Having time, try to see the ISALO highland,S.MARIE island.
The best period to go (no rain) should be from June to August.

Enjoy it!

i've never been, but really want to.
find wild lemurs - madagascar is the only place they are found in naturally.
have fun! x

I've been several times and my favourite places are the capital, Antananarivo, Majunga on the west coast (very Arab), Nosi Be (so beautiful that I literally couldn't believe my eyes!), Tulear and Fort Dauphin. It is best to go with a group if you want to see the wildlife, as it is not practicable on your own. Last time I went (the week before the wonderful old palace burned down) I took a tour with these people, but they seem to have cut out a lot of the places I revelled in. http://www.guerba.com/guerba/search.php?...
I think the ideal person to tour with would be Hilary Bradt, if she's still doing tours. "Madagascar Wildlife, 2nd: A Visitor's Guide by Hilary Bradt " is an excellent and inexpensive buy and I would urge you to get it, perhaps from Amazon. Meanwhile, check out the links on this site. http://www.gapyear.com/gaplasses/intervi...
