Are people from Madagascar considered Black? |
Are people from Madagascar considered Black? Not really! They are a mixed nationality, mostly a mix of African and Asian. The coastal regions of Madagascar have people which are darker skinned and resemble more the African people, the people in the central part of Madagascar and the capital city look more like Indonesians as many of them have Indonesian ancestors. There are many with European french in their background as well, from the days when Madagascar was a french colony. My response to your question is no. Well, if they are, one would suppose so. Of course they are! only the black ones, the white ones are considered white, the yellow, yellow, the red skinned, red ETC: They are considered residents of Madagascar. I am suprised to see a question like this, I did asked this question 20 years ago...well, its a good question but I would wish to know if you asked this question, yourself as a white person or an African or Malagasy...? related to your unique question, Malagasy people are of mixed race, regardless of how we can link to African acestors, themselves dont regard themselves as "Black" - and this is phenomenon of many mixed race people specially in Africa - for example in South Africa, a race known as Coloured people - they will distance themselves socially and moraly or general in life style in general from Bantu people, even they have given themselves western names and denied their own African names! - I have come across many people with African (Bantu) features but will not accept himself to be identified Black or African - rather call him "a coloured or Indian" even if he can trace acestors from fourth generation. |
