How dangerous is it to climb up to the Hollywood sign and touch it.?

just watched a couple of people do it on youtube and it looked pretty awesome. can you actually see people up there from the flat lands of Hollywood?

No way they could see you from Hollywood, I've been there and it's WAY too far...

There was a horse-rental barn underneath the hill it's on, just behind the sign and below, and it was closed when I got there...I was in Santa Barbara for work and drove to LA to look around...so beautiful in California.

Anyway, I drove up the mountain a while, had to explain to one man that I was from Texas and just dying to visit the hill as intimately as possible so he would let me in a "closed" road...then went to Griffith Observatory.

From there I found the road he told me about that took you to the sign, past so many incredible houses...very cool...
But I forgot I was driving up a mountain the whole time, so when I got out of my car behind the sign I was standing crooked...hard to explain but the angles were wierd. I was still in high heels and hose and a dress from work, and it was pitch dark and there was no one else around...kind of scary...heard several coyote type howls and cries...

The sign was RIGHT up a steep climb, and down over it, and I was too scared to try it alone. If you go, JUST DO IT!

I still regret not going up the last little bit of the mountain.

Why? It is up a steep and treacherous slope! I recommend against, but if you are so adventurous, go and have fun!

If you want to get arrested then go ahead..They have motion sensors and infra-red cameras along with regular cameras to detect idiots..Also they have loud speakers to scare the bah jesus out of you if you make it near the sign..Once a detector is activated the LAPD helicopter will come and remain on you until the police come and either ticket you or arrest you..Plus it is very very steep to navigate..Maybe 20 years ago but not today

Peg Meets the Sign - On September 18, 1932, after a night of drinking and feeling depressed, Peg would tell her Uncle Harold that she was going to walk up Beachwood to meet some friends at the local drug store. Instead, she would scratch and claw her way up the slope to the Hollywood sign where she took off her coat and folded it neatly. She placed it, along with her purse, at the base of the maintenance ladder which led up the letter "H". She would then climb up the workman's ladder on the back of the 50 foot "H" and perform a perfect Swan dive into the ground. Peg was more than likely killed instantly. She was only 24 years old.
