Is 871 a city code in London?

I'm trying to dial this number from my US landline:

011 44 871 376 9038

But the call doesnt go through, even with a different phone #..so maybe the city code (871) is wrong?

Well it is most definitely not a London number - that would be 011 44 20 #### ####

And I can't find any codes starting with 8 (or 08 for UK internal) listed on the BT website - looks like a wrong number somewhere

No it's not, the city code for London is 020.

I think the problem may be the 011 you're adding at the front of the number. This may be something you have to do with your phone system so correct me if I'm wrong, but the international dialing code for the UK is 44. Therefore, to dial the UK from abroad you would usually dial 44, remove the first 0 from the number and then tap in the rest of the number. I'm not too sure where 011 is coming from.... Perhaps if you try 44 871 376 9038 you might have more luck.
