Has England got the same rights as America ?

Has England got the same rights as America ?

I've been to America many times on holiday and actually think that we have more rights than you. I've never come across a right which Americans have which we don't have and in addition we get:

1. Free health care, whoever you are.
2. Free university (college) education.
3. The freedom to go about our business without having to run the risk of getting shot (guns are illegal).

And to address the points that Rio made above:

1. We do not pledge allegiance to the Queen (in fact, I thought Americans were the ones that had to pledge allegiance to their country..). The Queen is pretty much a symbolic figure and if people want to criticise her or her family they are more than welcome to do so.
2. Not having a written constitution, in my opinion, gives us even more rights in that we are not constrained by what we can or can't do. So for example, when we realised that guns were being used to kill innocent youngsters we simply banned them and didn't have to worry about certain folk harking on about an ancient right given in a document several hundred years ago!

Do you mean 'have the people of England got as many rights as those in America'?

If that is what you meant (after all, countries per se don't have rights) then the answer is yes and no - we have more rights in some respects and less in others.

No sorry, america is land of the free because we don't pledge allegiance to an individual such as a queen. We also have a constitution and all of our laws are written. In England it is not written on a piece of paper and is open to the opinion of the times and the judge that tries the case in court.
Are rights are written in the Constitution and the English don't have this luxury.

We are a democracy, and our laws are decided by a government elected by the people.

In most areas we are pretty well catered for, and probably things are much the same in our countries.

Areas that might differ:

We have right to welfare benefits according to need. We hear that Americans only get limited benefits and then they have to rely on charity.

We have the right to medical treatment that is free as it accessed. We hear Americans have to have the correct medical insurance.

We have the right to trial by jury, and our prisoners have rights too. Solitary confinement for life and the death penalty are not options for our courts.

All children aged 5 to 16 must be educated to a National Curriculum.

We have the right to free speech, although we must not incite hatred of minorities. You couldn't put up a sign saying you won't serve a minority group in a shop.

You have a right to follow any or no religion.

If you want advise about any particular right, please feel free to ask and I'll answer if I can.

Britain is fine place to live. Human rights are respected right across the board.

Unfortunately America does have one right which thankfully we do not have in the UK - The right to bear arms - it is against the law to carry a gun in England except under very closely defined circumstances.
