How can I get over my fear of the Tube?

It's very crowded down there and not much air..tons of strangers and the very, very high escalators which are terrifying...

Take it step by step.. literally...

Follow these instructions, repeating each one until you're ready for the next.. don't push yourself just take it easy...

1. First just go into the Tube station.. walk around and then leave..
2. Go down an escalator and then straight back up the other side..
3. Walk onto the platform and sit and watch trains arrive and leave.. (There are benches there)
4. Catch a train and stay on for just one stop.
5. Repeat the above at busier times of the day.

And don't ever forget.. nobody enjoys the tube, people just deal with it differently.

Give it a go!

the best thing 2 do is face your fear when u feel ready go for it u will usally find that ur not scared anymore

The only way to truly overcome fear is to face it. I used to have a social anxiety disorder, and I worked in sales. The two did not mix well. So I just had to keep my head up, be confident, and deal with it everyday. What I learned was if you spend enough time outside of your comfort zone, it becomes more comfortable. Eventually your "comfort zone" expands and you are no longer encumbered by your fear. Looking back, I realize it was all in my head and my fears were unrealistic. As said, "the only thing to fear, is fear itself."

Why not start at a quiet time during the day, on some of the mostly overground stretches like the Richmond branch of the district line.

If you get comfortable doing that, you can build up to the more difficult stations

Bring some water. It's not that bad.
At first try travelling when it's off peak times
