'White Flight'?? |
What is Kenn Livingstone referring to in London when he uses the term White Flight refers to white families leaving areas that have a large concentration of ethnic minorities, and moving into other suburban communities. Many skilled working class/ lower middle class whites have moved out of the less desirable areas of east, southeast and west London to suburban communities in Essex, Kent and Surrey. In addition, areas such as Newham, Woolwich and Hounslow, which are not seen as attractive to young professionals, now see white people as a minority. The result is that segregated communities seem to be evolving. |
