Literary & Debating Society of the Liverpool Institute?

For some reason Yahoo!Answers won't allow me to choose a Best Answer to my question on this subject!

Over the weekend I found a 1932 edition of the history of the Liverpool Institute in which it states that the L.I.L.D.S. (as it was known) was founded in 1885.

This makes it older than the Prenton Literary and Debating Society which was founded in 1890 and claims to be the oldest in the region!

Apologies to Scouser who鈥檇 I鈥檇 have made 鈥楤est Answer鈥?(and he鈥檚 have won ten points) had this contraption been working properly.

ok I voted him best answer for you

Scouser will try again.

The school had it's origins in 1825, but on a different premises. In 1832 the school with the facade you know today was finished. It would not have had a debate class when it was a girls school. That leaves the time to about 1840 when the boys school took over, or 1905 when the LCC took over.

I bet you took your GCE's there.
Did you go to the 'Crack' pub for discussions?
