Why do Americans seem to think so highly of Liverpool and Liverpudlians? |
Have you ever met an American? The first place they always bring up and rave endlessly about is Liverpool and how much they love Scousers. Whether it's retired American tourists, US exchange students, American military people, business types from the USA, whatever, they go on and on about how in love they are with Liverpool and its people. I can't figure this one out. I've met and known a lot of Americans in my life, and they universally seem to have an obsession with Liverpool. First of all the historical links between America and Liverpool have been well-described by Jonal. Little to add to that. The Beatles!!! The Beatles cos they dont even know how many sides a triangle has!! beatles and othre from the wirral. uhm well liverpool is a very industrial city combined with architecture and history hence 2008 and its new title well all that along with quite a few university that are widely accepted and Liverpool FC ( though im a chelsea fan i have to say the scousers are a force to be reckoned with) and just the good impression of the people when you go to liverpool really gives one a sense of liking for the city Just might be you don't have that old anti American gas bag "red ken" Use to go to London from time to time would of just loved to give that old fart my boot Wicked sense of humour.scouser charm Paul, Ringo, George and John Liverpool became rich in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as Britain's leading port, claiming the lead from Bristol.Much of the trade was to America, although ships were sent all over the world. Much of the American trade was, regrettably, involved with slavery, from which a lot of money was made. The Liverpool city website will get you to links concerning this.Liverpool was the major link between America and Europe. New York and Boston especially retain close links with Liverpool. Many of the crews on the merchant ships were Chinese, and Liverpool has one of the oldest, if not the oldest Chinatown in Europe. It also now has the largest Chinese Arch outside of China.I will be there on Feb 7th for Chinese New Year. It's a huge event there, with thousands of people out, very colourful and very, very noisy. There will be a lot of Americans there as well.Lime Street is where limes were sold to the ships' quartermasters to prevent scurvy amongst the crews. Beatles, English pop group. Maybe it`s there fascination with the Beatles, and the city ? i think its because Liverpool is a wonderfull city the people are funny.i live in Liverpool,i love it. Rita...it was a great port once - people may harp on about the Beatles, but before the early sixties, Liverpool (along with Manchester) were two cities in England that laughed at the conceited South, but Liverpool, along with other port cities were loved by Americans. its because of the beatles ,thats all they have ever heard , they think were all like the fab four ........................... Nice personalities, good fun, helpful & frienldy spring to mind Let me in here. the beatles and liverpool fc. Because they know that in London and the south-east of England that they will be cheated, robbed and perhaps even murdered. mental illness is a possibility, i agree with scotch mist Something to do with the Beatles. I hate Liverpool; its one big slum full of aggressive work shy drunks obsessed with Football. |
