Has the City ofLiverpool been let down by numerous Councils over the past half century? Does the city now need

a strong figure with the attributes of both Mayor Juliani and Richard Branson,to bring it back to its glorious past.

The City needs a revolution to kick out the rubbishy council and its vastly overpaid prot茅g茅s (all of them outsiders, mainly Londoners) in the so-called Culture Company. No matter how publicly, astoundingly incompetent they are, how much public money they waste and how much they make the city a laughing stock in the rest of the country, the Council won鈥檛 sack them and even gives them bonuses!

The idea of an elected mayor has been floated but few normal people are keen on electing some celebrity nutcase into an all-powerful position. Unfortunately there is no local equivalent of Ken Livingstone.

Rumours persist that mumbling professional scouser Phil Redmond wants the job. The local press kow-tow to him, even though he sat on his hands on the Culture Company board for years doing nothing to prevent the major cock-ups that have taken place:-

Yes. He's called Derek Hatton.

The council at the moment is doing a superb job with the capital of culture status. However, in time for 2008? I think not. I'm not so sure on liverpools history, but it's not likely these people are going to involve themselves in liverpools society.

Due to the working class / labour tag and the councils which have alwasys had no competition in the city i believe we have had under funding. Look at manchester, alone the same town, same conditions and same voters of labour and councils but they had a vision to transform their city into the capital of the north. They have suceeded to. Their road networks and business interest have grown manchester into a major cosmopoliton and i for one wish we had followed suit. They went through their mill closures and textile industry which was their main employer like we went through the docks closing and the ship yards, but they didnt let it stop their development. They found alternatives eg Huge airport development which is a massive plus for any city, we had what was until recently a very small second airport not unlike crewe or cardiff. We are finding our feet now with huge investment and having been back home couple of weeks ago i was pleased to see the docklands and river front looking so well with huge investment, also the opening of the world cruiseliner docks, that will bring all the Yanks and asians over and who want to dock in liverpool bringing huge interest into our city. Only thing is our city centre is small in comparision to most and we need to expand shopping centres in areas around the kings dock etc etc hanover st, like they have with the trafford centre around trafford park. We also need to redevelop the birkenhead side river front, give a reason to travel over on the ferry, We have something which a lot of cities dont, a coast line and huge river front, lets make the most of this, utilising its potential, we are making a start long may it continue, Oh also Man Utd sucess, even if its only football has helped there town improve to no ends. With liverpools new stadium ready by 2010 and it being the new age design it is, it will bring interest acoss europe.
