Was John Lennon such a worthy character for the City of Liverpool to name their airport after him?Hasnt the?

city produced many more worthy candidates than him for this accolade.

Sir Simon Rattle and William Gladstone come to mind...but hey - they're not - er - 'sexy' in mediaspeak!

I totally agree - I think they named it after him because he was the most famous, not the most worthy (although I am a big fan)

But, to be honest, the only other scousers I can think of are Cilla Black and Paul O'Grady.

Lennon was instrumental in forming culture, here and there. . . . . I think for the worse. But I am not profitting from this dumb society.

He may have been responsible for some great songs but lets face it, the guy was a drug taking weirdo so 'No' not a good choice. There must have been more worthy Liverpuddlians.

Might have of made more sense to call it City of Livepool Airport, or just Liverpool Airport.

I think he was pretty groundbreaking and very inspirational arguebly maybe there could be better people to name the airport after, i don't know who. Definetley not Paul or Cilla, even though i love them both. John Lennon really moved some people deeply as he created classic music which stfruck a cord with many. Personnally i don't think Paul or Cilla are on his creative level.

I mean come on Suprise Suprise and Lilly Savage?

I think so.........just think of how many tourists come to Liverpool because of the Beatles connection and how much money it brings to the city.
