Where are the good and bad areas in leeds?

for the future thinking of moving from bristol to up north , i have children too so any areas suitable for a family ideally

genuine answers please

OK. I may upset some people answering this, but I've lived in most areas in Leeds, so I can give a non bias opinion.
And this may be pretty long!

Stay away from council areas, you'll be able to tell them a mile off without me even telling you any, but I will, here is some of the no-go areas - especially if you have children:
Beeston
Belle Isle
Burley - Not actually that bad, but there is a lot of students.
Chapel Allerton - Crime! Although yes, it does have a good community atmosphere, in the daylight. Night is when the crime and disruptions happen - burglaries, cars stolen + vandalised
Chapel Town
Gipton
Halton Moor
Seacroft
Holbeck
Harehills
Horsforth
Hunslet - industrial and lots of students.

Good areas:
Colton
West Park - although it is a mix of council + private houses.
Temple Newsam - my favourite area in Leeds, it is neighbour to Halton Moor, but there is some really nice houses close to the Temple Newsam House - which has a farm and makes a nice day out, with large fields suitable for games with the children, dog walking, running, family picnics etc.
Moor Grange - Lots of private houses. I think there is block of council housing.
Kirkstall - But it is becoming increasingly popular for students.
Roundhay.

most areas have good points and bad but come up for the day and have a look round

Guiseley is nice and places like Kirkstall and just outside leeds heading towards Guiseley. Armley not as good as there is a jail there.

My friend lives in leeds and she says that it's great, they have really good entertainment, massive shopping malls, swimming pools, really big cinema's, loads to do.

Forget Leeds and try Huddersfield.
It is only 13 miles away and is Lightyears ahead of Leeds

Leeds = BAD
Outside Leeds = GOOD

Avoid places like Gipton and Seacroft. Headingley is pretty nice, and closer to the city centre will be safer but more urban.

I would say Seacroft ....My brother in-law has just moved from there it was a nasty place to live .....But there again it`s like every where you get the good and the bad ....!

cas - whats wrong with Chapel Allerton? its a really nice area, especially for kids! they have a nice community there.
